$115 dollars a year! Does the first issue come with a D700 taped to the cover!

If this is N-Photo magazine that is being discussed here, it is a UK based paper magazine from Future Publishing. Issue one does not hit the news stands until November 24th, and I also had the email blast from them last week and took a look at it online (nphotomag dot 'the usual for commercial operations' as we are not supposed to post commercial third party links that don't advertise here).

In summary, I'd say if you are stepping up from a P&S to a dSLR or are an advanced beginner or making the jump from beginner to club level enthusiast, then this publication is perfect for you. "Fix dull skies in Photoshop" (web site), "Tackle a creative photo project" (page 6 of the preview online), and "Getting Started 1: The Basics" (web site) are typical article titles. That last one starts out with a topic called "unboxing" where the author says: "For these guides I’ll be using a Nikon D3100 to demonstrate the basics. We’re going to start by looking at exactly what you get in your lovely new camera box." Does that give an idea who the main target audience is for you?

These articles are also interspersed with portfolios from photographers that are Nikon users and reprints of stuff from Nikon press releases. Of course, the stuff they put in the online preview was only a small selection of what they say is in the mag for real, I think, as I am not in possession of the print mag itself. It may end being really great!

House style seems pretty much like most of Future Publishing, which is hardly breaking new ground these days. Is that a bad thing? If you like other magazines from them, then it's great news, otherwise, it's all a bit ho-hum if perhaps a little bit 'clunky' compared to some other web sites and perhaps a little bit better than others. All my personal opinion.

I do not know if is the same, but you can preview and read some of the articles of Nikon World Magazine on Nikons USA web site.

Nikon sent me an email on this last week. I'd really like to see one free issue on the net first before I decided to pay their price for a subscription.

Have any of you gotten an advance copy of the new N magazine? I have seen some ads for it, I think it launches soon. Its $115? per year -13 issues i think. It looks to be Nikon digital only. Each issue comes with a dvd. It seems a bit expensive,but with a dvd it may prove to be very helpful to get the most out of your gear. Anyone have any insight or extra info on this? THANKS-Chris
