I've been really happy with the Phottix stuff. Their Strato ($83) is pretty great and triggers flashes as well as cameras, and the Plato ($50) is pretty good, though one of mine appears to have melted a bit (after some 10k+ shots) and finally stopped working. I know they also make a few cheaper solutions.

Just a note, they ship from Hong Kong and it takes about two weeks for their stuff to arrive.

+1. I love my phottix plato. You would want the one with an N8 cable.

@casperwb - He can't use the IR remote on the D300 - us D300 people are stuck buying the pricey $250 Nikon version or the $30 3rd party.

learned something new today.

BH photo search.
Home: Photography System Accessories: Remote Controls: Remote Type: Wireless Remote Controls To Fit: Nikon

RPS is what I used to have until I dropped it in a pool of water. Worked well. There are tons of cheap options out there. The only real thing you need is the 10-Pin Connection.

Anymore I just use the self timer set at 10sec and sit it up to take 15 photos in 5 second burst for natural light or 1 per sec for 4 shots with a flash..

I am a newbie and want to purchase a wireless remote for my d300. I don't have the d300s, just the older d300 version.

I want to take a christmas picture with my family. My plan is to set up the d300 on a tripod, get my family in position, then click the wireless remote that will be in the palm of my hand. My search to find a wireless remote to accomplish this task has me very confused. I found some remotes to activate the camera from a computer or iphone. This is too complicated for me. I just want a simple handheld remote clicker so release the shutter on my d300. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
