Niko - I have to disappoint You, I still remember watching slides, moreover even have the projector not to mentioned couple hundreds slides :D also agree with You that it's gonna be a neat tool once You go to Your client to show the presentation, as I haven't seen or heard that it's only limited to pictures from camera.

I just don't understand the logic of it being cool in an iphone but as a camera it sucks? I guess I'm the only one who remembers watching actual "slideshows" on an actual slide projector. Sigh..... Damn all you young whippersnappers! Now get off my lawn!

Funny you say that Niko... I posted on engadget that I would much rather have this functionality on a smart phone than a camera. If I could watch a little 10 inch movie screen on my iPhone, I might actually bother moving some of my movies over to it.

For photo viewing on the other hand... I'll have to reserve my judgement until I get a chance to see it in person. I suspect it will sell some cameras but I don't know that it will be very usefull (definitely outside the box though... kudos to Nikon.

Maybe Nikon will add it to the D5000. It can become Nikon's gimmick SLR HA!. Actually, now that I type this it makes pretty good sense. The D5000 is already Nikon's best movie camera. Now it can also be the best movie player!

I just saw video of how this camera works and I have to admit I want one. I like the possibilities this little camera creates. Plus it would be fun to mess around with. Seems like a lot of fun actually. Imaging pulling this out and projecting a mini slideshow to a client. They wouldn't be expecting that would they?

I think we should give credit to Nikon for thinking outside of the box and taking this into production. If apple were to put a projector in an iphone, everyone would be saying, "awesome" and "apple's so cool". So why aren't we giving Nikon more credit here?

The biggest news I saw in that release was the camera with the OLED screen (The S70 I think). OLED is supposedly much brighter and uses less power than LCD and conventional LED displays. The brightness would be particularly helpful to the P&S crowd as using them in direct sunlight can be pretty difficult without a viewfinder. And at 3.5 inches, its bigger than the display on the D3.

No word on the resolution, but if its the same as the rest of Nikon's Gen 2 cameras then it could be really spectacular and a sign of things to come.

The tech is fun, but the camera is yawn-worthy. Put this into a swivel-lensed p&s with a decent sized sensor and full manual controls and I'll line up for it (okay, that wish doesn't even require the projector, I just want my swivel lenses back.)

Thinking about kids already NikoDoby? :D

Just kidding.

But on the other hand, I need to complain, because the average point and shoot user won't care about a projector in the camera. They'll care about getting the picture. Many of my friends aren't photographers even comment that my D40 is way faster than the cameras they carry. If this camera isn't fast in any sort of way, why does Nikon feel the need to put unnecessary technology in a camera to make it less like a camera?

So unless the camera is improved in all other areas that need improving (other than the projector), it would mean that Nikon is right on the money.

If it doesn't though, than Nikon's got its priorities wrong. And of course, I'll wait until it gets reviewed before I come to that conclusion.

I personally think the tech is great. I told my wife about this camera and she was impressed. It's something SHE would be interested in (depending on the price). So I guess Nikon did their homework and this camera will cater to a specific audience. Unfortunately I don't think the people who visit NR daily are the target :(

I would get one only as a collector. Would be kinda cool to show my grand kids in 50 years "The World's First Nikon Projector", even if they'd say,"grandpa that's retarded!!! Can we see the D700 again?"

But if it comes with a film slide carousel adapter then I really will pre-order one, price be damned :^)

So as in the topic, is anyone going to buy one? What do You think about this technology? Is it necessary?

As for me, I'm not going to buy one, although I think this technology is great. To put a video projector (VP) into such a small box.
