Nothing for me in these releases. I have a D300 so I see no need for marginal differences with the D300s. My 70-200 is fine. Never was impressed with the 18-200 in the first place. D3000 please...stripped down bodies annoy me. It's why I sold my D40.

Nikon will get more of my money when the D400 (or whatever the replacement is) is released and is worth it. 400mm F4.0 or 5.6 will get my attention for sure.

I absolutely agree with you guys, Tai and ted2001. If I could horde as much old Nikkor film lenses as possible (or any old Nikon gear for that matter), I would. :D

Nope, I'm not buying anything new. My 35mm 1.8 just came in yesterday. Boy, I love that depth of field. :D

I need to get used to a tiny tiny lens now though, after I got used to a 18-135 on the D40.

But, having said that, I do love the fact that the successor of the D40 is still in the D40's clothes. It looks so good, the D3000. The specs don't wow me, but still. Plus, I like the fact that it has a fixed screen.

And the D300s, my jaw just dropped. Maybe later I'll pick up a D300. Maybe.

I'm perfectly happy with my D300. Faster frame rate - don't use what I have now. Video .... Pleeeez, I don't think so. Couple extra buttons. No thanks, got enough.

Now the 70-200 is a different story. I was in the market when Nikon bumped the prices up, but not as interested now. I have other lenses that cover that range. Some day, when I have no other priorities, and maybe the price drops a bit, I'd love to get one. I can wait.

Where was the announcement for my beloved and long awaited SB700?

18-200 - for sure not
70-200 - if I manage to sell my 70-200 for a reasonable price, than most likely, mostly because it's a little bit shorter (8mm) this will allow me to put it with TC17 to a bag without any problems
d300s - unlikely - doesn't bring to many new features over d90 and d200, maybe apart from the virtual horizon and double card slot, so unless I sell my d200 for a nice money than for sure no
d3000 - nope, if it would have a cmos sensor, than I would probably got it as a walk-around small body, but it doesn't have any

I use a Nikon D40X for my walk around/vacation camera due to its very small size and light weight. I've been salivating over the prospect of replacing it with a D3000. Now that its been released I'm terribly disappointed with it. No earthshaking improvements!!! Same 10.2mp...same CCD sensor (not CMOS) Why spend $599.99 and get essentially the same camera I already own!

Nikon's old lenses have such marvelous construction. And you're right, the slow versions were often as good as their faster cousins at the same f-number. Though the wide/normal fast lenses aren't heavy. I love the 24mm f/2, the 28mm f/2 and the 35mm f/2, and they're all quite small, especially if you're used to today's bulky zooms.

Actually they are the old and slow versions. The F3 is a small, compact body by today's standards and Nikon's slower lenses all used 52mm filter threads and were small and light-weight. So, 20/4, 28/3.5, 50/1.4, 55/2.8 macro, 85/2, 105/2.5 and 200/4. My old Domke F2 (still my favorite bag) comfortably held 2-3 bodies (remember when you had to decide Color/B&W and ASA ahead of time?) and 20/28/55/105/200, flash, filters and 20-30 rolls of film (remember the space and weight for film? and the need to keep it cool?) The 85 was almost unused - just the rare portrait when the 105 was too sharp and contrasty.

Many of the lenses were bought used (pre-owned shall we say...) at camera shows. In that era you could look through the lens, check the aperture return spring and spot any real defect. The lenses had such strong mechanical construction, that used worked perfectly and saved a lot of money. Particularly if you were not a speed lens hound. I'd buy their old lenses as they traded for faster (and heavier and not necessarily sharper) versions.

I love my old nikkors too, so much that I bought an external light meter for my D60. (I have a 28mm, the 50mm 1.2, and the 200mm f/4 IF Micro.) But eventually, I could see myself swapping the d60 for the d300s (or if it lasts, the D400) because of that metering ability, the fact that the sync speed is higher, and only 1 of my lenses is AF-s. (and for that matter, only two are autofocus)

I could maybe see myself buying the 70-200mm II and for what it is worth, that is the ugliest new lens that I've seen from nikon. But I don't currently have a use, since my 70-210 is perfectly fine right now.

Is that the 28mm f/2? That's a nice lens. How 'bout the 85? is it the f/1.4? Also classic, though the AF is nicer. And the 105? I do love my old Nikkors.

I'll probably buy the D300s. I love my D90, but want metering with manual lenses. I have a full kit of lenses from my F3's - 20,28,50,55,85,105,200,500 reflex and would like the opportunity to better use them.

If I were patient, I might see if the D90 successor had that metering upgrade, but I doubt it, seems like a more "pro" level of feature and might be used to differentiate the lines. Like depth of field preview on the D90, but not the less expensive bodies.

Might buy the 70-200, I like the longer reach and smaller size of the 70-300, but as the reviews say, above 200 it's just "ok". Not sure I'm crazy for the size and weight. My old 200/4 was so small and sharp, I might tempted to return to it.

The new 70-200 is available for pre-order here in Finland for 2497€!!
For that price i won't be trading my old one for it.
Allthough it's at a store that asks ridiculous prices for everything, they're selling the old one for 2247€!

I'm not buying any of these either. D700x/D800 is the announcement I'm waiting for, at which point I'll decide between that and the D700. The D700 has been begging me to buy it for some time now

Nope..All is good!..

I think I will be waiting for the new Fujifilm DSLR that will probably be based on the D300S body.
Or the D400 whichever comes first!

The old 70-200 vr if I can find a nice secondhand one. Maybe.. but I think I am preety set with
my gear these days. unless they bring out a refresh of the 80-400! (I have an old tamron 200-400)
I have been waiting for that one for a long time..

I already have the old 18-200vr. and the new one doesnt change the optical formula and
I am not fussed by the zoom creep ( use a black silicone band to stop it from creeping) so no difference for me..
