I use a D700 for "serious stuff" but I am sure I am not the only one who wants something a bit smaller to carry all the time

We dont have any firm details of the Nikon mirrorless compact camera, but would you expect the IQ to be compatible with a D5100 or P7100

Hi 7xing,

I hope so. I really do, but unless Nikon really steps up, I'm skeptical. I really feel that Nikon's 'out of the pro' field has always been a disappointment. I've felt the sting in my pocketbook too many times.

My best,

Mike

However it will mostly likely be just as expensive as a D5000 or D7000 DSLR. Your best bet would be to upgrade to a DSLR such as the D3000 or D3100.

All point & shoots are inherently "slow" because of their shutter lag and contrast auto focus. DSLRs are faster because they use phase detect auto focus. The upcoming Nikon mirrorless compact camera will supposedly have a new "revolutionary" "hybrid" AF system. However it will mostly likely be just as expensive as a D5000 or D7000 DSLR. Your best bet would be to upgrade to a DSLR such as the D3000 or D3100.
