Haha, yeah, I think I saw him mount his D7000 on his D3s and D3x.

This will allow you to pre-focus the p/s and the D200 to the exact same point:

That is pretty cool, I agree.

I must admit though at first I thought this thread was titled "Mounting a POS on a DSLR"...

For when the links get removed - "Adorama DLC Mini-Ball Head with Hot Shoe Adapter"

That is a great find R8R.

I have just used a flat head counter screw, drill a hole in a extra hot shoe protector (or a piece of thick plastic) and a piece of black tape on the screw so it doesn't touch the diodes on the shoe. Add two nuts, one to lock the camera and one to lock the screw on the plastic protector. Only cost me $0.25 for the screw and two nuts. (There is a smart A$5 joke in that one.)

I want to mount my P&S camera (Canon IXUS) on my D200. This will allow me to shoot video on the P&S while I am shooting stills on the D200. Don't ask why.

Has anyone done this sort of thing and how did you do it?

I have seen some hot shoe attachments with a tripod thread. I guess that would be OK if the P&S weighed about the same as a flash unit. How robust are Nikon hot shoes?

A much simpler solution would be a two-ended tripod mount, which would allow me to mount the P&S upside-down beneath the D200. I've never seen such a device.
