All of them at work were recalled incl our Demo, that makes me think that all that we have sold would have been recalled stock also. That being said I think Nikon did the right thing with this recall. My previous Canon 40D also had power issues but Canon did not issue any recall but only repaired cameras that owners complained about or had send in for other issues. I remember a couple of times when camera suddenly lost power, but after removing battery it was OK again. Anyway my camera was send in with another problem and when returned Canon had also replaced its power supply. Friend of mine was shooting a wedding when his 40D died and would not turn back on and he learned the hard way that he should have had a backup camera.

That being said I think all brands should step up their quality control, special with lenses, my Canon 24-70 2.8 was a disaster even after calibration at Canon it was not that great, then I saw a pictures taken by my friends Canon 40D and his 24-70 2.8 and they were perfect. My 70-200 2.8 VR is perfect, properly the best zoom lens that I have ever owned, I hope when I get my 24-70 2.8 that this one will be great also and not a repeat of what happened with my Canon

Anyway I hope that all of you with D5000 Nikons get them repaired fast and you get back to using this otherwise great camera. You know, Nikon could have looked the other way like Canon did with their 40D and you might have been shooting something important and have your camera die

Sorry for the long story

Pete
