Unless you have a light meter like the sekonic 308 or better, then you could use a little dude like this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/109466-REG/Kaiser_201501_Hot_Shoe_Flash_Slave.html/BI/2446/KBID/3285 if you don't mind setting your flash power manually. There is no guarantee that it will work with your sb-600's and 800's though

Either you switch to a d700 and a battery grip, or get an SU-800. There really is no alternative.

So I just switched from a D300 to a D3. I LOVE IT. But I miss the pop up flash as my commander. I have an Sb800 and 2 Sb600's. Now my 800 has to stay on my camera to be the commander and I feel like I am missing my 3rd OCF. Also I bought a TTl cable (sc25??) and hacked it to bits and extended it to 20 feet, BUT I dont like being tethered. So...the question is, are there any other alternatives you can think of to keep all 3 flashes off camera, KEEP TTl (I think that removes pocket wizards, but if not enlighten me please) and be wireless. (I'd rather not buy an Su-800)
