You can always stack two tapes by side or cut one of them to fit nicely. I would peel of the remaining rubber, clean the surface with i.e. alcohol, attached new tape to either body or rubber and stick it together.

Not too sure about it, but I'm not sure if rubbing alcohol could damage plastics or not.

I'm not sure how large the patch is, but 3M double sided tape might work.

I tried a spray adhesive with my D200, but ended up having to redo it months later - so I used an intant glue and it worked great. I was gluing the whole grip back on, and I didn't really care if it damaged the grip as long as it worked better than the duct tape that was holding it on after the spray adhesive failed. A year later and it's holding great.
Then again, my D200 has quite a bit of cosmetic wear (paint worn to bare metal around the edges, trimmed rear command dial after it expanded and it wouldn't turn...), so I wasn't really worried about additional cosmetic damage as long as it worked - good news is that it worked, and didn't damage anything. With a D700 in good condition I may have been a bit more choosy about the glue I used though.

Rubber contact cement - spray kind if you can find it is what I have used. I think B&H has some products for reference.

Hi Folks:

I have a D700. The rubber in the thumb area is starting to get loose. I would appreciate it if anyone could make a recommedation on the type of adhesive I should use to repair. I know instant glues can damage the polycarbonate structure but thats the extent of my knowledge.

Thanks.
