I've owned the D300, D700 and presently own the D3 and D3s.
The jump from the D300 to D3s is incredible. Buy it now and don't look back.
Everything about the camera will be better than your D300. You'll especially noticed improved auto WB and of course ISO 12,800 is comparable to ISO 3200 on your D300.

If possible, wait. There will be a D400 which may suit your needs if you are now using a D300. There should be a number of D3's and D3s's and D3x's used for a discounted price as their owners switch to the new D4. And there will be a new D800 as another choice with used D700s in good supply at discounted prices. If you can wait a few months your choices should increase significantly. I don't see a good value in paying full price for a camera which will be discontinued in a month. Why do you need to give away your D300 "right now?" Delay doing that for a few months.

Since the update's probably not going to be announced 'til August, won't start shipping 'til September, and will likely -- if the D7K is any indication -- be in short supply 'til early 2012, I'd say get the D3s now. Will the D4 outperform it? Bet on it. But you can't shoot with a camera you haven't got, much less one that doesn't exist. :)

Hello.

Im thinking of buying the Nikon D3s.
In the "Nikon Buying Guide" the blog suguests I should wait for the Update.
The problem is I don`t have much time since I need give away my d300 I own right now.

When is it expected to get an update for the D3s?
will it cost more than the current moddle?
