>>Nice comparison....The noct is at 2.8 in that shot and the 1.2 is at 1.2, so....<<

My mistake. I picked the wrong sample. Here is the Noct at f1.2
http://tinyurl.com/3lva8w8
Here again is the 50mm 1.2 AIS:
http://tinyurl.com/3gswtmv

As you can see, no contest. Any way you look at it, the Noct-Nikkor is going to be a very hard act to follow.

I agree that the 105mm F2G would likely be a replacement for portrait shooting, not the macro.

I would love to have updated wide angel primes, although F2.8 would be fine for my purposes.

I wish they would make a inexpensive wide angle prime like the 35 and 50 f1.8's. Something around 14 mm or so. Also +1 on it not replacing the macro lens...it already has VR2 and nano coating. There would be no reason to replace it already.

Those two are shot at different apertures but I have seen the Noct samples that are extraordinary shot wide open. I'm not sure if the Noct design can go into AF - I have never seen one that was but never knew why. Other 1.2 designs are but not a Noct.

Either way I have met many Canon shooters who liked the idea of shooting at 1.2 but in practice they sold them all for 1.4's due to the DOF being too shallow for anything other than studio and too big for street work. The focus has to be spot on for 1.2.

>>The 50mm 1.2 AIS is really good at max. aperture...<<

It's no Noct-Nikkor. Not even close. Here's the 50mm 1.2 AIS:
http://tinyurl.com/3gswtmv
Here's the 58mm 1.2 Noct-Nikkor:
Sigma has a decent 20mm f/1.8.

I have the Sigma 20mm, and it is ok with DX sensor. Could definitely be better, but as I paid about less than third of the list price, I´m not complaining. On FX the thing is horrible.

They're going to have their very own hard act to follow. What are the odds of them putting out something the likes of the 58mm f1.2 Noct-Nikkor?

The 50mm 1.2 AIS is really good at max. aperture, so I think it is not going to be as hard for Nikon to make an AF-S version as you seem to think. The price is probably going to be outrageous for a 50mm though. And I think people would rip off their pants to get an AF version of the Noct with nanocoatings and all. I know I will, if that thing ever comes out.

Nikon submits 100's if not 1000's of patents a year most of which never come to fruition or come out 1-2 years later. That said, the only one I really see released is the 50 f/1.2 but not anytime soon. They have been on a 50mm kick lately though.

I'm willing to bet the 105 f/2 will be to replace the Defocus version along with 135mm which I think there was a patent a while back on this one as well.

I don't think you will see an updated 20mm anytime soon (especially a 1.8) as the optics on the zoom lenses have out performed the f/2.8. There are too many others that are desired including the 85mm f/1.8. Sigma has a decent 20mm f/1.8.

Is it a macro lens? Man, I just got the 105mm 2.8!

However, I am happy about that lens- it appreciated $100- not for a good reason of course, with the Japanese tsunami and earthquake, but still.

Nikon has certainly rolled up sleeves as these new patents appear.

Suddenly, the 105mm f/2 VR patent made me lose interest in the 85mm f/1.4G.. anyone else having similar symptoms? For me the thing with 85mm is that it has always seemed just a bit too short for my shooting purposes and then again a 105mm with VR could be just the thing.

And knowing the AF-S 50mm 1.2G is going to come as well, I can hardly wait. I truly hope the new 50mm is going to set new standards for low light photography at large apertures.

I hope a decent AF-S 20mm f/1.8 is on the Nikon to-do list as well. Would be very useful.
