Ahhh yes the gadget craze, I think everyone has been there or if not is on their way now even if its temporary. Always good to keep it as basic as possible I agree again with you TaoTeJared. I really toned down my lens collection this year it was getting ridiculous. I blame the internet, amazing fast developing technology and the savy Korean market I find myself in. I have a grip now though it was one of my 2011 new years resolutions to stay practical :)

I did have my "gadget craze" and now I am stripping everything down to almost nothing but there are times I curse myself for selling it then again I just take my ball cap off and look through the back opening.

I do like some of those links, Delkin has some different ones as well. I think Flashpoint has other as well.

Yes TaoTeJared it is one more thing to keep track of and can get in the way. I agree its nice to keep things simple but for when you really want to see your LCD with harsh extreme glare (ie desert) I don't think the hoodman can be beat and would solve vidrazor problems.

vidrazor those are interesting links. Hoodman is trusted quality brand and sell many items so they might be more reliable. However, as you mentioned you are not too fond so far on any particular brand so far so its up to you :)

I used the Hoodman for a while and it became just something else to keep track of. As a photography standpoint, anything attaches or protrudes seems more of a pain than help. Really I just used it for checking horizons & framing. I find the camera displays are maybe 90% accurate at best and are really just for blinkies and framing.

For video shooting that could be another story and the options out there seem to try to turn a DSLR into a video camera design. Not my cup of tea, but it may work well.

Thanks for your replies. Well, I've looked a bit, and so far I'm not too fond of any one product in particular, Hoodman or otherwise. The closest I've seen that looks kinda interesting is this: http://tinyurl.com/6dun39d

That one's interesting in that you can flip up the viewer eyepiece.

There's also this type, originally made for video cameras: http://tinyurl.com/64rklor

That might work with the screen flipped out.

Hoodman also makes loupes that attach to the LCD although I'm not sure about swival LCDs. vidrazor its a bit pricey but worth it and top notch quality. They even use top drawer German glass inside the Loupe! It works great, comes with a handy little case and hangs around your neck or zippers like it wasn't even there. Problem solved good bye glare.

Can you attach a hood to a swivel LCD? I mean I know you can just not move the LCD but how would the hood attach if the LCD itself moves around?

The hoodlupe looks interesting, albeit pricey. I there a 3-sided hood that can just clip on and be permanently attached to the screen?

All the people I have seen using one is the Hoodman Hoodloupe. They all swear by them and they look easy to use as they have them hanging from their neck for easy access.

I use a Hoodman for all 3" LCD screens and its excellent even in direct glare of midday. You can even use it when shooting with liveview. I also use it on my Leica M9 which only has 2.5" LCD and its fine. I bought it directly through Hoodman for about $80 plus shipping.

Is anyone aware of a screen visor, hood or viewer that will fit on the D5100's screen? As is with any of these devices, the screen is difficult, and sometimes impossible, to see in daylight. The situation is worst when trying to record video, but is a general nuisance, Thanks for any info on this.
