Nothing has happened to me, but I did almost fall down a cliff not too long ago. I had my tripod out and I dropped my lens cap very close to the edge and leaned over to get the lens cap and almost took a tumble...

Whaaaat! That was YOU !! No wonder you don't let anyone know who you really are! (And my girlfriend actually was one of the cheerleaders!)

Hell I have insurance, they can rob me because I will get a new camera out of it. I am NOT going to get shot or stabbed over an item.

On a similar topic, does everyone on the forum who shoots professionally have professional indemnity and public liability insurance? I took some out when I turned semi pro last year, but do some of you not bother?

When shooting high school football games, I often got blindsided when I was shooting downfield from the sideline, and not watching the action near me.

I was just going to tell the OP that I believe it was you. "You can have my gear, but only after I've beaten you round the head with it first"! Like it.
I think that that would have been my attitude also, "if I'm going to hospital, you're going to be in the bed next to me"! ;-)

You bet you are lucky, no horn piercing, and all bones intact. Did you shoot him?

I was in a rodeo arena shooting bull riding. When the chute opened I could see that the bull was looking right at me. The bull threw his rider after about 4 jumps and headed straight for me. I only ran about 4 or 5 steps before I felt his nose come up under me. He tossed me over a 6 ft fence. I landed flat on my back with my camera held up in the air. It just knocked the breath out of me so I was pretty lucky.

I know about David duChemin taking a fall from a vantage point somewhere in Italy when leaning in to get a good shot. He's been recovering in a Canadian hospital for some weeks and recently was released to further recover at home. It's going to be like three more months before he can even try to walk. Pretty terrible accident.

http://www.pixelatedimage.com/blog/2011/04/and-then-i-fell/

Awkward thing is at the time he'd been writing a post on taking more risk.

Myself, I've not really been in any danger. I think the most likely thing that could happen is running into trouble with people actually, for instance when photographing late at night or in the wrong neighbourhoods. Then again these places and times are also more photographically interesting. I guess me taking up Krav Maga may give me the courage to take some risk.

Motivated by "Photogs Run For Cover!" thread, I created this one to document hazardous personal experiences of forum members while practicing photography. Stalwarts like Mike Gunther, and that guy (sorry I forget your name) who dared a mugger to rob him off his Nikon come to mind. Likewise, I am sure many of you have small or big mishaps to report in line of duty. I will start off with one of recent one of mine:

I was shooting a university softball game, and was allowed to be at certain location inside the field. I was shooting from just outside the dugout near the 2nd base, and coach had warned me that sooner or later I was bound to be hit that day. Sure enough it was sooner rather than later. Our champ whacked one right at me, I had the camera aimed and saw the ball coming and knew it was inevitable so took the shot anyways. Luckily, I ducked soon enough to preserve my 80-200 2.8, and my own head. But the not very soft softball hit me with a resounding smack on my right shoulder. And then there was a bunch of "I told you so's". Ironically the bruise I got was lemon-green just the color of the very hard softball.
