I was SERIOUSLY looking at locating to the east side of FL about 15 years ago. I got about 70% of the way through the process and it all fell apart...

Shame - I like that part of the country... It makes you KNOW what A/C is for... LOL!!!

In light of the recent earthquakes, tornados, and floods lets hope and pray all hurricanes fizzle out at sea this year.

Amen to that!

WE were "pooping" (sorry) ourselves about the storms yesterday, what with Joplin and all the deaths there from tornados the day before!

On a more serious note for a moment, lets be thankful that you're OK, bjrichus. My home state is Alabama and I feel so sad for those that were affected by the tornados in that state a few weeks ago as well as those touched by the recent storms. I live on the east coast of south Florida now and this year's hurricane predictions don't look so good. In light of the recent earthquakes, tornados, and floods lets hope and pray all hurricanes fizzle out at sea this year.

There is more than enough side-to-side motion to cause the "Jello" effect in that video. This is exactly what you're seeing.

To the OP, was this shot with a Canon Rebel series body? That's what it looks like to me..... A 500D(aka T1i).

I don't know the model, it's a Canon is all I recall ... that and the "different" feel from a Nikon... rounder and less ... I don't know ... just not what I am used to. WE were "pooping" (sorry) ourselves about the storms yesterday, what with Joplin and all the deaths there from tornados the day before!

I thought the jello effect occurred when rapidly moving the camera from side to side. The camera seems to be stationary to me. What I'm seeing in that video is kind of weird - almost like a split film effect where the trees in the foreground was layered on top of the clouds and tornado in the backgound.

It wasn't my camera (my boss's Canon actually). Would *I* spend money on a dSLR that produces bizarre results like that, when my D7000 doesn't?

Shot it yesterday night in the tornado outbreak deep down here in TX. Several of us were shooting the storms last night. There are a bunch of similar video clips (search for "denton tornado 2011" on there) so while a decade or so ago, that would have been earth shattering footage (well, nearly but you know what I mean) these days, it's only good for comments about an odd visual in-camera effects.

Power to the people!

That's what I was thinking and that is why I posted this... Not sure how we got that and for sure, as it wasn't my camera (or my favorite brand for that matter), I'm not sure HOW we got that.

That is the "Jello" effect from a CMOS sensor. Certain cameras are worse than others(obviously, depending on the sensor). Our D7000's actually handle "Jello" very well. Our D5000, doesn't.

If I understand what you are saying, my guess is that it is due to how CMOS sensors work. They read data going from top to bottom, but not all at the same time. This is the same thing that leads to the jello effect that is very well known.

I have hardly used video on my D7000 and I'm not a videographer, so don't blame me if this is a known effect :-)

Just been viewing some video shot with a friends C*non and have noticed something that I never expected to see... It was hand held, very low light (a tornado and storm was going past about half a mile away) and on the C*non, as we (wobbly, hand-held) moved the camera, just in small increments to follow the action, the sky moved at a different speed to the almost completely in shade land. They were moving independently in a series of small 'jerks', can clearly see them moving at different rates as I moved the camera.

This can't be normal for a $1500 dSLR, can it?

If so, then this is junk!

I am sure we could get better from my Dad's 40 year old super 8 film camera!!!!!

If anyone wants to see it, where best to post a 5Mb movie file to?
