Honestly, save your cash and buy the newer, better(IQ and DR wise) and cheaper D7000. It's body shares more in common with the D300s(than the D90), but has a much better sensor.

Hi,

If photography is your hobby and you don't have a general use for the lens, it doesn't seem that you'd have a use to buy it.

The realistic answer would be, 'no'.

People who buy lenses tend to be people who don't need them, but can afford them.

My best,

Mike

Good point- I forgot to mention that I'm missing a wide zoom, so it certainly makes sense to me.

I don't know if it would make sense for you.

Sorry the D90 combo is 600 pounds here in Denmark. Denmark is in the EU so buying one from here should be no problem.

Thanks for the suggestion Godless. I may do that.

Thanks to Henrik Also but the D90 is a bit more expensive here and therefore doesn't seem as good a bargain.

A tempting offer Niko buuuuuuuut I'll decline :)

Thanks for all the replies guys. See yous around.

Here in Denmark you can get at brand new D90 with a 18 - 55 for 500 pounds. A more student friendly price range?

I have the opportunity to purchase the above combo, used, for £1100. I have no use for the lens as I mainly take portraits and am hoping to buy a samyang 85 1.4 soon.

The 12-24 is a very good lens. If I were you, I´d buy the combo and find some use for the lens. Start taking party snapshots and night landscapes as well.

Thanks for the quick reply. I currently have a D40 (my first DSLR) and a 50 1.8. But I've had the body for a few years now and I have well outgrown it. I would like this to be an intermediary body that I can sell without a huge loss in about a year or so in order to step up to an FF body. The aspects of the D40 that really frustrate me are the lack of motor and the dodgy ISO results at 800 and above. I realise the D90 offers those but I can't find any reasonable deals on it.

That doesn't seem like a bad price. The lens new is $1,000, the body is $1,500.

If it's steep have you looked at other options? What camera body and lenses do you have right now?

Remember, if you have a D300 right now, it's not that big of a difference between the D300s and D300.

When you upgrade bodies you should consider skipping a generation.

Hi guys,

I have the opportunity to purchase the above combo, used, for £1100. I have no use for the lens as I mainly take portraits and am hoping to buy a samyang 85 1.4 soon. The seller is selling the camera body only for £750 which is a bit steep for my student pockets :( So I guess my question is about the resale value of the 12-24 lens and how much I can realistically expect to resell it for. I have checked ebay but I didn't quite find an answer and am unlikely to do so in the short time that I have to make my mind up.

What do you guys think of the deal in general?

Thanks in advance for your replies and I apologise if my question deviates a great deal from the usual ones.

All the best.
