Well, the conventional wisdom from the first firmware update was to run the update after the sensor was a bit hot (a couple minutes of live view or video). I had no problems with the 1.02 update, but if you do you could try that.

I still had my original hot pixels after the first time I installed the previous version of the firmware (1.01). I read online—on the NR blog, actually—and someone said that updating again (i.e., going from 1.01 to 1.01) got rid of the hot pixels. Sure enough, that made them disappear.

I mention this in case anyone else experiences what you and Mike did, Cary. It's something else to try. That's good to hear they decided to go away on their own for you!

After doing a super low-light, high ISO tests last night, I noticed a few hot-pixels that were never there and I haven't updated to the new firmware. Lol. I've never seen these before, so this is odd. Then I tried the tests again later in the eve and they were gone. Not sure what that is all about...lol.

I will do some more testing tonight to see if I can replicate them.

Hi all,

I did quite a few shots and I wouldn't believe what happened if I didn't see it myself.

The pixel simply went away. It was consistent and persistent in JPEGs and vanished in RAW, but after running a 100 to High 3 test, the problem simply disappeared.

I've sent pictures with my tests to Nikon support - I'm guessing they will be glad that it's gone - one less thing on their plate, but I sure would like to know what happened.

My best to all.

Mike

>> the hot pixel wasn't in pre-firmware shots.

Gee, that makes me kinda wary of upgrading. I don't currently have any nasty artifacts in stills or video, and the feature list doesn't really contain anything I can't live without so maybe I should pass on this one.

Would be interesting to hear from other upgraders having similar issues. Anybody?

>> I would roll back to see if it's gone if I could a) find the previous firmware, b) if the system allows roll backs.

Well Mike, it's fortunate that you shoot mostly RAW... if you can't do a rollback it won't be the end of the world.

Lightroom uses the same processing engine as ACR, so maybe that's what's going on. I guess the way to tell would be to load a jpg into ACR and see if the hot pixel disappears.

Nope. A JPEG retains the little bugger in ACR.

I so rarely shoot JPEG, but the hot pixel wasn't in pre-firmware shots. I'm not discounting coincidence, but that's a stretch.

@CaryTheLabelGuy No performance increase that I'm aware of.

Adobe Lightroom automatically removes hot pixels. It's a non issue. You won't even see them.

>> But..., when I put it into Bridge and opened in Adobe Camera Raw, it disappeared.

I know this is drifting off-topic, but I've noticed the same thing with my D80... a stuck pixel that appears in the .jpg does not show up in the RAW file. This seems counterintuitive, doesn't it? One would think that the file closest to the source would show the defect, while a .jpg (which presumably receives more processing, and contains less data) might eliminate or soften it.

Mike Gunter said:
Hi all,

I upped the firmware to 1.02 and got a hot pixel.

In prepping for a shoot today, I saw the hot pixel in a low light, high ISO shot last night (this after the firmware upgrade), and thought @#$%$@#^&. (My shoot tonight is in a very dark venue in which a hot pixel would stand out.)

But..., when I put it into Bridge and opened in Adobe Camera Raw, it disappeared. After many trials, all of them did. The hot pixel is in the preview window in the D7000, and it will be in Bridge until opened in RAW, but it isn't in the photo. My immediate problem isn't a problem.

Never noticed it before - and I would, and I might revert to earlier firmware - if I can; any know if that is possible, whether the firmware is a causal agent of the pixel, or know where the earlier firmware is located?

JPGs OTOH, stay the course. JPG shooters will keep the little buggers.

And, least someone begs the issue of a single pixel, or two or three, I'm quite acquainted with retouching and such, and been around a while, but if there is a permanent fix, I would rather go that route.

And finally, finally, I think this is firmware

My best,

Mike

Uh-oh. I hope this isnt a real issue. That would suck. I have yet to port over to the new version. I would rather wait and see what happens, since none of the fixes were really problems for me.

Have you seen any increase in performance at all, Mike?

Is there a roll-back? (In case I want to go back to the previous firmware)

Thanks Johnny! That's good to know. Has anybody noticed any differences in the way the camera takes shots and improved quality in their shots? Very general question, I know. But you never know if Nikon changed something and just decided to keep it to themselves.
