Agreed. I can't see the attraction either. A proper camera has an OVF. I will never understand why all the companies dropped the OVF from their P&S cameras.

I agree that a viewfinder is critical, but don't assume that all mirrorless cameras only have lcds. EVF in the high end mirrorless models rival OVF in size and quality and have the ability to view either a still shot or video. For example, Panasonic's EVF is 14% larger than the D7000's and has 1.5 megapixels. The biggest disadvantage is that cameras with an EVF suck down the battery faster than SLRs with an OVF. You can expect that Nikon EVIL's will have awesome EVF that will match its prosumer OVFs in size and allow the Nikon EVIL to be used for either stills or video.

EVIL cameras are the fastest selling product for camera companies right now.Olympus, Panasonic and Sony have been marking huge profits with their line. Sony's NEX line helped them over take Nikon for second place in the European market. Just look at all the excitement the Fuji X100 got. It doesn't have interchangable lenses but if Nikon had a similar design with removable lenses it would be a big hit.

Not including such a camera from Nikon's lineup would be a huge misstep. Same thing goes for those who don't want video in future Nikon's. I remember when auto focus and batteries were said not to belong in "real" cameras either.

I was just down at the Chateau de Chenonceau - there was a bus load of Japanese folk there and most of them had EVIL's of one make or another with them. It was very bright and they all were squinting badly while trying to see the image on the camera screen in the sunshine. I can't see the attraction myself.

Given the trouble Nikon are in right now, that would be the first model I would drop.

April is almost over and there has been no announcements from Nikon about this new EVIL camera. Was this a joke or is it really being manufactured now or later?
