hey Studio,
Yup, they are stacked, and there's a little spacer padding that goes between them. . .there are a dozen or so of them with the speed racer. . .

Hey Gents,
here are the pics as promised:
with the D3+24-70 going in, 85 on the right, 20+50 on left

nice and flush, zips and seals tight,

if you have the d3 around the neck, you can put the following in:

and for the question of the hour, the 70-200 replaces the 85 1.4 on the right side slot (20 and 50 still on left)

mounted d3+70-200 possible? going in. . .

but alas, too tight, which is expected, as wasn't advertised to be mounted, only to hold:

And the 85 1.4 mounted on D3 and 24-70 on the right. You can fit the 70-200 on the right too.

Hey Studio,
So the following fit no issue:
1. D3 mounted to a 24-70 with hood reversed in the main compartment.
2. Side compartment 1: 85 1.4D hood full extended
3. Side compartment 2: 20 2.8/50 1.4 both with hoods reversed.

You can also do the 70-200 VR2 on one side, but I'll do a sexy little photo shoot with the bag tomorrow before I ship my D3 out.

I can tell you right now, though, that the build quality is SICK. I have a Retro 20 that I usually take on shoots, but have been nervous about travelling with since the padding isn't the greatest.

This bag is water sealed, strong zippered, and pull padded. . .

When they had the special on it (dropped to $120 or something?) I figured I'd pull the trigger. . .

pics coming wednesday!!

Thanks, shivas! I'm looking to store a similar inventory of bodies and lenses, so I'd be very interested to see how you fit them in your personal Speed Racer, and what your personal opinion is on how the bag feels (and looks) when worn. By the way, how did you know what would fit and what wouldn't, as you described above? Were you able to demo one in a store? Let me know if you think the following would fit:

1. D3s body + 85mm f/1.4G mounted.
2. 50mm f/1.4G.
3. 24mm f/1.4G.
4. F6 body-only (same form factor as a D2).

I looked at some Google images for the Speed Racer, and it looks like the F6 body may not fit (in addition to the above items). What do you think?

Thanks!

I have looked at this bag for a while and also was considering a Domke F3, F4, F6 but I would like the belt support with the weight.

I use a larger Marmot Hip pack for a similar size set-up but it is small and I can't get my 70-200 2.8 in it so I just leave it on my R-strap.

I'm very interested in also hearing what you find out.

No need to apologize aetas. I was just trying to steer the discussion away from becoming another camera bag suggestion fest. I'll let this thread stay open as long as it is specific to just the Think Tank Speed Racer bag.

Try my PM again. I got a lot of PMs this week and hadn't had time to look through them all :^(

"Recommendations on not looking like a tool bag?"
I dont have any help for you my bag is tool only. My only suggestion would be to find something small that is more of a messenger bag and less fanny pack or backpack. I think the messager bags look the least tool like+)
~Cheers

I just bought one because I was tired lugging an overloaded Domke F-3X with me on city shoots, and I needed something that would fit my D3+lenses of random assortment.

Pluses:
D3+24-70 mounted fits in, along with an 85 1.4D on one side, and a 50 1.4G/20 2.8 on the other side WITH room to spare.
Rain sealed.
Fits 70-200 2.8 on one side, unmounted (in place of 85 1.4).
Has hip straps and shoulder straps.

Cons:
Has hip straps = I mean I look like a SERIOUS tool with a HONKING BLACK fanny pack now.
Won't take the D3 mounted with 70-200 2.8 (lol, imagine how much larger it would've had to have been!)

Anyone use one of these?
Recommendations on not looking like a tool bag?
