Please do a forum search for these individual lenses. They have been discussed extensively in numerous threads already.

I have a few lenses for my D7000, but the 35mm f/1.8 stays on the most. If you are going to do landscapes, the 35mm may be better as the 50mm might be a bit too long in focal length. Neither are macro lenses, so closeups may not be their forte. But the minimum focus distance is 0.98ft on the 35mm, where as it's 1.5ft on the 50mm.

I replaced the kit 18-55mm (that came with my old D60) with my 35mm and have never looked back. My personal feeling is that the 35mm at f/3.2 is sharper than at any aperture on the 18-55mm. I think you'll also get a little better bokeh. Finally, if you already have 18-105mm, there really isn't a reason to buy the 18-55mm.

'individual close up' ? you mean portraits? or close-up of flowers? if its of people go for the 50mm of its for flowers go for the 35mm .. and no the 18-55 wont give you much more than what you already have with the 18-105. If you are after macro try one of the multi element close up filters like a raynox dcr250.

I have the 18-105mm DX VR lens and the 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 VR lens and I love them both.

I am thinking of a new lens for shooting garden scenes, both landscape and individual close up. I was told the Nikon 50mm or 35mm f/1.8 would offer crisper, clearer images or do you think the 18-55mm will work as well?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
