Too late to help now, but spark-plug anti-seize is a good idea on your speedlight foot. Prevents the galvanic process dead. Haven't had a single stuck light since I started years ago.

<p>Interesting tip, Testing . . . is there aluminum-to-steel contact (which could cause galvanic corrosion) between certain Speedlights and Nikon hot shoes?

Can't speak to the SB-600, but some of my older speedlights clearly had a plated brass foot plate and once the plating wears off the brass loves to corrode and stick.
</p></blockquote>
<p>True, that is what happened to my SB-28 and SB-23

<description><p>I don't know if this is a Nikon problem, but on my old Nikon film camera (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikon_F-801">N8008s/F801s</a>), after 6 month of use, the Flash went easily in the socket.. but I had to fight with it to take it out. I do not remember the flash model (The "antecessor" of the SB800)... and it was not a problem related to the lock lever. It seems that the flash contacts reacted differently if they are pushed up from the front or from the back.
