I cannot get color peaking to work on the Sony CLM-v55 attached to a Nikon D7K. I am unable to disable the camera's info overlays, which is what the Sony field monitor is showing with the color peaking.

Just curious how or if anyone has gotten this to work.

Thanks, Pher, I'll check it out. Not too anxious to buy just yet, I'll probably keep using my home-made loupe until I can get a handle on all that's out there.

My biggest concern right now is the focus issue... I'm asking myself if a 5" monitor with peaking (the Sony CLM-V55) going to be easier and more accurate to focus than a 7" monitor without peaking. And if so, is it worth the extra $200 clams?

Has anyone on the forum tried the Sony? I realize it's a long shot, they haven't been out that long.

Would also like to hear some hands-on evals from anyone who's had a chance to compare the cheaper monitors (like the Lilliput) with more expensive ones like Marshall... do you see significant differences in the quality of the displayed image, or are differences more in qualities like features (number of inputs, etc) and ruggedness?

Search on eBay. You can find this monitor, w/ 6800mAh battery, and mount for $215.

Check out cheesycam dot com also. A lot of good video/DIY info.

Lilliput 7" 669GL-70NP/C

Check this guy out. You want HDMI on a field monitor and these are a popular choice. There's no edge detection peaking for focus, but it's cheap and can be powered off batteries.

You can output 1081i on the D7000, btw and I don't think you can get rid of the overlays.

bhoveyga....I was getting ready to post the same thing, as my old eyes have become weary as well. Hopefully someone can give us the answers.

I did do some checking this afternoon and it looks like the new Ipad2 will work but they start at $500. My camera store said a 5" Sony viewer is getting ready to come out and it was $400.

I couldn't find anything on it at the Sony site but I did find some Sony 5"-8" digital picture frames that had USB ports and they were around $150, maybe they would work but I'm not sure.

I've only had a short time to explore the video capability of the D7000 but I'm very excited by the possibilities. There are downsides too of course... manual focus seems to be the order of the day since the contrast detection autofocus is often too slow and indecisive in many shooting situations.

Unfortunately, my aging eyesight is not working in my favor here... when I reach my arm around the camera to grab the focus ring, my nose is about a foot from the LCD, and my closeup vision has really gone south since I hit 50. I end up with my head tilted back so I can see thru the lower part of my old-fart gradient lenses... trying to maintain this posture while panning a subject is a sadly comical sight.

A loupe might address my problem, they can be adjusted for infinity focus so it would let me use the "normal" portion of my glasses. Also under consideration are the larger (5"-8") off-camera LCD monitors. I can't spend many hundreds of dollars, but I'm wary of the cheaper models that only have composite inputs, I suspect they may not be sharp enough for critical focusing. It looks like the entry point for HDMI monitors is about $400, with the exception of a couple of models from Lilliput that are under $300.

Since it looks like this is going to be an essential piece of gear for a lot of us, I'd be really nice to hear from anyone who's already taken the plunge. I'm not sure of the forum rules on specific product recommendations, but I assume it would be permissible to at least exchange technical information and feedback. For example, are composite monitors sharp enough for focusing, do some models perform better than others under bright light, what are your experiences using a monitor vs. a loupe, etc.
