you'll have no better option, the crowd may break your camera though, so i suppose it's up to you.

Will these tactics work for a rock/punk band? The members of the band will most definitely be jumping and moving around.

mount an sb-700 and use it for the af assist. you will need something pretty short, say 50mm and get close so the af assst will work. there are a number of ways to stop the flash firing but still maintain af assist.

then crank your iso up as high as it will go and give good results,probably 1600 for you. grain is ok in grimey band shots, but not in headshots and beauty shots.

next set aperture as fast as you can. 2.8 or faster is best.

next set shutter speed accordingly. aperture priority if you're not comfortable with manual adjustments.

shoot RAW and process to make them really look good.

If you do a search for low light photography or concert photgraphy you should get a bunch of hits. There is some really good advice on thses.

This was a great post and I got alot of info that I used for shooting burlesque shows. Which is a great event to shoot if any of you get a chance.

I have a Nikon D5000. Next Friday my friends' band is playing. I'm not quite sure what kind of setting it's going to be. I'm assuming a darker setting. I have never shot anything in a dark, dim setting. I would appreciate any advice on what setting(s) to use. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
