Please do a forum search for those lenses. There are several threads on which is "better" on a DX camera. Everything that has been said about which of these lenses to use with a D90 still applies for the D7000.

I personally find the 35 a little awkward on the DX body. I don't really like the range. I never shoot much in that range and for me the 50 would be better. Hard to say though. I always recommend setting your zoom lens to the mm you are looking at and walking around taking pictures at that length. It will give you a better idea at least of what sort of range each lens will be in. For performance I think either are probably great, but the 50 is f1.4...not sure how much would really be gained by that.

LOL..

Ok since you dont seem to be clear regarding why you want those lenses, It may be best you do not get either till you are sure why you want it. Those 2 lenses that you have cover a handy range. Maybe spend the money on courses. They are fun and you should learn a lot from it esp. if the course specialises on a subject you are interested in taking. Maybe join a local camera club and take part in their friendly competitions. I find it was a great learning experience to hear the judges comments on my pictures.

You need to have a reason and purpose to get a lens otherwise its going to be a paper weight. Also if you dont give us a reason we will be unable to give you a suggestion that makes sense. eg If I had those 2 lenses I would sell them both and get a macro but thats me I love macros. You have to tell us your motivation else its all meaningless what ever we suggest.

I have both. Prefer the 35mm. Just seems to a better lens. Certainly sharper than the 50mm. More versitile too, expecially on the D7000.

Best Sub-$500 DX Portrait Prime

Im sure this will come up. These two lenses I believe are talked about on this post. If you do a search it will come up. There is a search bar on the left of the main Nikon Rumors Forum page. Welcome to the rumor mill. oh and 35mm 1.8 would be a great walk around lens for dx but the 50mm 1.4 is just a amazing lens.
~Cheers

@heartyfisher: better for overall performance.

They are nikkor lenses.. so they perform very well... You need to tell us what you intend to use it for. all lenses have a purpose. neither are good for macro subjects. both are bad at zooming... what lenses do you currently have? For what reason do you want either of these 2 lenses?

Better at what?. they are for 2 different purposes. 35 mm = general lens. 50mm = portrait lens. both are bad for birding ;-).

Hi all,

I've already bought a nikon d7000. i'm currently deciding whether to buy a 35mm 1.8g or a 50mm 1.4g Maybe anyone has experience in using one or both of these on their d7000. Maybe you guys can give me a feedback on which one is better. thanks.
