JorPet said:
I have noticed that the D7000 is now more often in stock at B&H than out of stock. Has been trending that way for almost a month now.

I tend to buy everything towards the end of the product life rather than the beginning. Better prices and availability that way.

Then I would presume the 300s and the D700 should be right up your alley...

There are times however where the new release of a product gives you something you couldn't have done before... Can you imagine being an indoor sports shooter and when the D3s comes out, you buy a D2x or something at the end of it's life cycle? You'd missed out on something...

Maybe I'm unusual, but I can't get all worked up over new bodies, lenses and other paraphernalia yes, but I'm quite content to let other people be the test guineapigs when it comes to the camera itself. Its not as if your old one suddenly takes lousy pictures just because it's replacement is announced. Not only do I like to read the test reviews and owners comments before slapping down a wedge on the counter, I also find that if you wait the feeding frenzy out, the price/deal you can get it for is greatly improved. Yes it is funny "studio", I bet they weren't interested in chasing anybody last year, now they want your business!

I know it's a little bit of topic, but is the d7000 still in shortage in US? no such problems in Poland, You can even get some from second hand already.

Funny e-mail I got from B+H Photo yesterday, "Your body-only Nikon D7000 is in stock." I just got this YESTERDAY! So, I guess they're more available now.

studio460 said:
The D7000 was a special case. Different Best Buy stores had inconsistent "release" instructions for the D7000. Some were told they could sell the product a few days before the official Nikon release. I bought mine on Wednesday, when I think the official release was the following Sunday. If you visited the right Best Buy between Wednesday and Sunday, on the week of its release--you got one.

If you kept visiting Best Buy stores for the weeks following its official release, you would've found one of the one or two units per store that were trickling in about every two weeks. This method allowed many customers to beat large online retailers' waiting lists by a month or more.

That's what happened in my case.

I was able to pick up my D7000 days before the official release and it ended up being sold out on the actually release day.

I still no some people who haven't been able to purchase it.

So glad I wasn't hooked into pre-ordering. At first I thought I was cursed for being broke at the announcement but it turned out a blessing!

How do certain people get their cameras so soon after Nikon releases them? . . . for the D7000, I remember some people getting theirs less than a few days after it was officially announced. Can I put myself on a D800 waiting list now? Or do I need to know "someone?"

Read through these 22 pages on how people were waiting for and then finally buying the D7000. Being on a waiting list gets you no guarantee.

What I said back then for the D7000 will still applies for the D700 replacement. Only the "D800" will be shipping in smaller quantities than the D7000 so you can expect a feeding frenzy around the first deliveries.

How do certain people get their cameras so soon after Nikon releases them? I mean, when I bought my D200, I got on a few waiting lists and I waited and waited and then I called one place that actually had one in stock and I jumped on it. But by that time, it was two or three months after it was announced. For the D7000, I remember some people getting theirs less than a few days after it was officially announced. Can I put myself on a D800 waiting list now? Or do I need to know "someone?"
