ithurts: Maybe, but materials and process tolerances are controlled and it is Nikon in China that makes the stuff, not some small entrepreneur.

I'll put a thin spacer in there to fix it, but I am not impressed.

I am curious too. I am not a manufacturing engineer, but my guess would be a variation in the manufacturing between different factories. My Nikon branded MB-D10 is made in China.

No problems at all on my D90 with the Nikon grip.

I never had a problem with D90/MB-D80. It was a Nikon brand grip, not 3rd party.

I do have this problem with my D7000/MB-D10. I fixed it with a piece of electrical tape wrapped around the post that is next to the connector plug. The play I experienced was rotational around the tripod mount axis.

slightly off topic, but is the grip on the MB-D80 flatter than the one on the D90?
my 3rd party grip doesnt fit my hand as well as the one on camera. it feels like holding a brick..

take a wire tape (isolation tape) and put it on the lower part of MB-d80 - the part You stick inside Your camera, and You will no longer fell any play. that's what I do when I had d90 and grip. it worked like a charm.

Seems it is a quality control oversight on Nikons part. What is the use of having a solid tripod when the body flaps around on the grip?!?

Oh well, I have to send the camera in for repair (new viewfinder), I may as well include the grip. <sigh>

Ive had this problem with a third party MB-D80 grip. I fit a piece of paper in between the body and grip and it fixed it

Does anybody else have a small amount of play between the grip and the body using the D90 with MB-D80? I noticed it with the ensemble on the tripod and think it can't be right.

I can obviously sandwich some spots of foam between the body and grip to get rid of it, but is this the case with other peoples MB-D80 grips too?
