You should look and see if you can find a refurbished one. I got a refurbished one from B and H for a great deal right when the D7000 came out. Saved about $200 off the price of a new one.

Right, the plural D300 was a new model. The D300S wasn't expected for another year. The D200 price drop at Best Buy had nothing to do with either model.

Did I say the D200 price had anything to do with either model? I put it in chronological context by saying it happened before the D300s came out.

The D200 was on clearance at Best Buy in Q1/Q2 2009.
The D300s was announced by Nikon in Q3 2009.

I'm not sure what part of my statement you are convinced is incorrect.

Nope, the D300 had already been out for almost a year when Best Buy put the D200 at that price. No one else had D200's in stock by that time. Best Buy must have found a large shippment in their warehouse or something and did a quick fire sale. The D300 didn't even sell that low when the D300S came out.

As I said, and as you quoted, "D300s", not "D300's".

No offense intended dee, but if you are that poor that waiting indefinitely to maybe save 50 bucks means more than getting and using and learning the camera now, what are you doing buying a camera? I don't have much money so my solution is buy used and buy now.

If you're willing to buy used and willing to shop around a lot, I suspect that you can go even lower, especially once the D7000 replacement comes out (look at how cheap the D70 goes for now). As far as new D90's go, I'd agree with everyone else and see we're pretty much seeing the bottom now.

Just to clarify what I meant - not that the D90 supply is about gone (I have no way of knowing that), but that the price is probably close to where it will be when the supply eventually is allowed to run out.

is it ? that's what I'm trying to figure out. how low can this possibly get ?
since I'm a "new comer" when it comes to dslrs I have no way knowing.

easiest thing would be pulling the trigger on these current deals, but since I'll be getting the camera itself only in July (even if I order right now) I'm having second thoughts about the timing, as Testing123 said.

I just bought a D90 kit myself a few days ago and am perfectly happy with the price paid. From what I've seen with Nikon pricing, it only ever gets so low before supply finally runs out and a model is gone for good. I think we're pretty close to that point with the D90, but for the price I thought it was a great alternative to the D7000 (at least for my skill level).

Good luck

It was in the D300 price-slot. Far above the D90 slot.

Totally ignore what you see it going for now, new-old-stock sales are a completely different, and irrationally priced, game. Retailer's clearance is the last rational price.

Check out the going rate for a new 18-70 if you want to see another example of irrational pricing.

Timing is everything. How much is your time worth?

The D200 ended up on clearance via Best Buy online for $600 before the D300s announcement.

The D90 WILL go down. Likely significantly before the last retail package is gone. Accept that. Only question is do you want to wait by the computer plotting the trends and calculating the absolute bottom of the curve or do you want a D90?

It is a fine camera at a fine price at the current going rate.

dee - the release of d90 replacement doesn't mean that the price will go lower. also I wouldn't expect d90 replacement soon as for now on having more models on the market for Nikon means better market adjustment - there are customers who doesn't want to pay d7000 price and for whom d3100 is not enough.

I'm one of them! Bought my son the D90/18-105 kit this last weekend for exactly the reason you say Adamz. He's over the moon with his first "proper" camera.

Hello Dee and welcome to the forum. Officially Nikon says the D7000 is not a D90 replacement. That's why they are both sold side-by-side and the D90 is still listed on Nikon's website right next to the D7000. I doubt the price will go any lower. Nikon will just let supplies dry up. The D90 is still a popular camera even with the D7000 and future D5100

Looking at D90 kit's price for more than a year now, looks like it won't go any lower (beyond $850-900 for the 18-105mm + body) toward it's life end. or will it ?

I can see it's still being ordered to stores inventory, but history wise - how long does a successor (d7000) and its older generation (d90) can be sold at the same time ?

Guess what I'm trying to ask is: pull the trigger at $900 or keep waiting for the unknown.

Your comments and points of view are more than welcome. Thanks.
