I plan to use a 1.4x Sigma EX APO when I get the AF-S 300mm f4 (hopefully next week).
Nikon Brand TC:s cost too much new.

I dont know the IQ of the Sigma though I think its not too bad. I have the Kenko 1.4 pro version and its ok(dont get the cheaper non Pro version, IQ is not good on that one). I got it because it works with some nikkor lenses that wont work with either sigma nor nikon TCs (eg: the 80-400) (clashes the back elements onto the nikon TC's front elements)

Pag, thanks. I think I will order the Nikkor TC1.4. Shooting birds is my primary reason for this combo. The import version doesn't worry me much since it's not a complicated unit, but the 300MM f4 I bought is a US warranty lens..

Funduro, I recently got the 300mm f/4 with the Nikon 1.4x TC for birds in flight and it's been an amazing combination.

FYI, I just checked B&H and an imported Nikon TC1.4 is $299 as compared to $419 for US version, so a savings of $120. Compare that to the Sigma TC1.4 is $249, or only $50 in savings. I'd go with the Nikon import if I were you and eat the extra $50.

adamz thanks for the advice. I might get the "import" Nikkor version to save $50 or so. Read on B&H customer reviews that a TC shouldn't have issue. I don't trust Ebay stuff, way to mush Chinese counterfeit crap out their.

should anyone win the lottery and wants to make a donation out of the goodness of their heart, I will take a 300mm 2.8 afs ed vr II for Fundro, and you can get one for me also.

IMHO, it should work, but I wouldn't go for off brand TC's. Get a used TC17 for $300-$350 and You'll be more than pleased with the results.

I'm looking for comments on using a Sigma TC with a Nikkor AF-S 300MM F4 D. I've read many great comments from those using the Nikkor TC and would like to buy the Sigma to save some $. Savings goes to a SB700 purchase.
