Not nuts about the red body, either. Looks like Sony did the sensor, but they subbed the body out to Fisher Price.

My father and stepsister both have 100's. I love the fact that it's got an EVF (I don't usually like composing on a screen), but I agree about the "loose" lens. Also thought the IQ was a bit on the soft side, and this was in broad daylight. I don't expect SLR-level performance from it, but I was a bit disappointed that some of my shots with both cameras weren't as good as with my older, less-capable Kodak. I'll wait and see what the samples look like... also keeping an eye on the other brands. Since I'm socking away money for an SLR, though, I'll probably keep using that Kodak 'til the lens falls off. :)

The red P500 shot on te blog page looks like the Pentax 'trippy' marketing department puked all over it. "Nasty" and "Plastic-looking" are the words that comes to mind with that color, but then I'm a black camera body person ;-)

Yes, that particular red has the oily sheen to it that only the finest painted IM plastic and Lady Gaga's costume designer can quite capture. ;)

When your camera itself is at risk of being the catchlight in your subject's eyes, ye know the gloss be a wee bit overdone.

If the "lost" MP means better IQ/ISO, then that's not a bad thing. I'm looking more at the P500 and hoping that they iron out some of the bugs from the P100... though a bridge camera isn't exactly "pocketable," unless you're wearing, say, a zoot suit. :)

HAHAHAHA... nice... Zoot Suit... LOL!!!

I agree about the IQ... but I'll wait to see some test shots and a chance to try it out.

I took a look at the P100 in the summer. One of my brother-in-laws got one from our local Ritz camera store (spit, spit). The lens felt kind of "lose" (I can't describe it any other way) when it was zoomed way out but the image looked OK. Is there a lack of accuracy in assembly perhaps?

Whatever, he uploads to a PC and uses the Nikon software that came with the camera. The results are not much worse at all than the images you'd get from an entry level DSLR in good light. Of course, it might not be as good in darker situations, I just don't know but it meets his needs so it's not a concern for me.

The "as yet" unannounced (see main blog) Nikon Coolpix S6100 looks like it might slip into my coat pocket for those moments when I don't have an SLR to hand...

But then the P300 has full manual mode and is a good deal more expensive, but loses 4MP along the way too...

Choices? Hmmmm.... Must remember to wake up Wednesday and read the bolg BEFORE I make my coffee....
