OK, for the record yes this is an 18plus forum. If you are under 18 we aren't going to kick you out so long as you realize and accept that this IS an adult forum.

Having said that, why are some of you acting like a bunch of little kids? The "extended" use of the F-word is NOT acceptable. I can't believe how many complaints I've gotten while I've been away and a lot of them are about this thread. So let's keep it civil.

You just confirmed that members under the age of 18 can join... I think on both side of the border most would agree that an 'adult' is someone that know how to behave and that ladies do not use F words. I am not looking to pick a fight with any one and did not mean to offend you.

I have been waiting anxiously for Nikon to release say a D400, and FX D800.
Meanwhile Canon has been rapidly releasing and seriously improving their current DSLR lineup.

Seems like Nikon only cares about entry level and point and shoot.

I cannot stand Canon ergonomics but at the rate it is going if we don't get a new Pro-Sumer DSLR by the end of the year I will switch to Canon.

The difference between the D200 and D300 is gigantic and if you couldn't see the value in the improvements than I don't think that you'll ever be satisfied. And you can get a D700 right now for less than the original MSRP of the D200, so you're complaints are majorly unwarranted. And if you really think that switching from one company to another is going to make your photos improve you have a lot to learn. Nikon has been as consistent as you could expect with all of its updates. This summer is exactly when the updates were always expected to happen(despite any obviously incorrect rumors you saw here in the last year), so quit bitching or go over to Canon.

I have been shooting with my D700 since May, constantly pushing my skills and I surely cannot claim to have outgrown its capacities yet so my thirst for a new body has somehow been fading. The D700 or the D3s are by no mean obsolete cameras, so please yourself and go get one.

He Nikon, if you are listening, please take your time and give us killer, well thought of, tested and mature replacements.

Gee, I feel sorely left out. I keep hoping that my D200 will keep working for another two years and keep shooting great photos. At that time, I'll invest in a new camera and hope that I get the same 5-7 years from it, if not longer. What I want is a camera that will survive: winter tidal wash, sandstorms, car-bicycle car crash, being dropped - as well as my D200 and keep going strong.

I love this thing. If the shutter breaks in the intervening time, I'll fix it rather than buy a camera again. I've got the lenses I want (okay, so I'd love to get the 14-24 2,8G), a camera I love, and loads of stuff to shoot. A tripod, however, that is something I need to upgrade. Mine is falling apart and is quite a trash in comparison to the ones I've been borrowing.

Yeah, I don't get the complaining. Nikon haven't ever been as 'fast' as Canon - in digital or mechanical. They simply aren't the same company. They make great cameras. I DO understand the need for video, however. Having used video and seen what you can do, it is an iincredible asset to a DSLR despite its shortcomings.

But, I am more into shooting and enjoying. Rumours and new cameras are fun, but not enough to make me bat my eyes at every new hardware out there, especially when the portion of money I make on shooting is relatively small in comparison.

Every time I see one of these "ultimatum" posts, I can't help but wonder: if you're so convinced that the D300s/700/3s is such a worthless, steaming, pile of crap, why'd you buy it in the first place? And are you really going to tell me that all of your images for the 1-3 years you've owned the camera were that godawful? If that's the case, you'd be better served by a photography class than a new camera. If it's not the case, quit whining, get off your butt, and take some pictures!

I bought my d700 in April and it is all i need (well i do have a d300s too).

people are complaining too much, just exactly what the other thread that was started (d400 d800) wanted to say.

you people who are bitching. do you really have more skills than;

the D700, the D300s and the D3s.

The answer to that is no. Those cameras are as good as anyone needs with the exeption of a few people who MIGHT need a d3x or a medium/large format.

I suggest going out an taking photos while you are waiting. You might find you like it.

For sure SkintBrit and Jorpet. Also, just think of the other benefits of being someone who buys on pre-order - like hot pixels and focussing issues.

I'm happy to only have a year of current model life before being behind in the game, and that may even be the next model but one so I get a real WOW! when I use the new camera. It ain't like the images out of the old products turn to cr@p just because some better models are released is it.

Exactly! I also bought a D700 last March and am still amazed at its capabilities. I listen to the pros I know who complain that having to upgrade their cameras every 3 years is a ridiculous waste. They hate that they are on the digital treadmill.

While I will welcome the D700 replacement, just to see how high Nikon can raise the bar, It will be another year before I would consider upgrading at the earliest and probably two.

what exactly is wrong with the D700?
it will sync ( certainly with a SB 900) at 1/500
is a few more mega whot nots going to make any difference ?
what is so important about dual card?
Is a 100% viewfinder essential? yes vital with slide film, but what's the probem with digital, which can be easily cropped in post production

Where are the forum mods when you need them.

Another if Nikon does not do this, I am switching to Canon. If that is the case, stop your whining and switch already.

I for one bought my 700 last March, and my 3s last summer, and am quite pleased that I have had a few months shooting a "current" model. I think I would have been quite annoyed if a new model had been released weeks after paying full retail for the old one. Now of course I'm not suggesting that Nikon holds back on releasing new and improved equipment, because of a concern over residual values, but I am also convinced that for the vast majority of photographers, the current crop of cameras are, and will remain caperble of "out resolving" their users.

Just my opinion. I await news of how the D4 will improve on what I already have (or the pictures I can take with it), but have no intention of automatically buying one just because it's the latest and greatest.

As far as I know, the only other consumer entry level DSLR to be released this year is the D5000 replacement. Other than that it's Coolpixes and the still-waiting-on EVIL system. I'd say it's a very good chance that we'll get our prosumer/pro bodies this year. The D3 was released in August 2007, and IIRC Nikon has had their pro bodies on a 4 year cycle. I'm guessing you'll find out this summer.

Canon only updates their entry level equipment every year- same as Nikon. How old is the 5d2 or the 1ds3? Those are old too, and are soon due for an update. The reality is that Nikon and Canon both have different update schedules, so it's fairly common for to leap from the other when big releases are made.

Can anyone explain what it so special about the T3 and T3i? They look like minor cosmetic updates with the same basic internals with a flip screen (which is expected if you are doing yearly updates).

C'mon Guys, those cameras were soooperb when they were released, why not look forward to the replacements being as big a jump as they were?

Three years is perfect between new models IMHO.
