I use a Camdapter hand strap, it has a Manfrotto QR2 base so I can attach it quickly to my heads. It can be supplied with anyone of many types of base to fit any head.

spraynpray, you are right about the amount of looseness, but there is a sweet spot, at least with the Camdapter strap, it took me a while of fiddling to get it so, but I have no problems with the camera controls or with it feeling insecure.

I really like the IDEA of a hand strap, but I found the reality not so good. If you have the strap set up so that it is the right tightness that there is little chance of it slipping off your hand, I found I struggled to operate the buttons up behind the shutter button. If I loosened it enough that it was easier in that respect, it wasn't safe on my hand. It sits on my shelf these days.

If you do go for one, I'd say get one with the wrist strap and run it quite loose on your hand.

I bought the pricey Nikon hand strap for my N90s film body, but transferred it to my D7000 for a trip to Disneyland. I've always liked hand straps, but I had a few issues:

1. The Nikon hand strap was difficult to mount to my D7000. I needed to sandwich a Stroboframe quick-release plate between the body and the strap base to get it to stop swiveling (the anti-twist lip on the Nikon hand strap doesn't fit the D7000's base properly).

2. The strap feels good, but it inhibits movement (as it's designed to), and limits your ability to easily manipulate the D7000 "D-pad."

On the upside, the camera feels very secure when shooting with the hand strap. While the hand strap limits control of your camera's right-hand buttons, I do really like shooting with it. I think the ideal set-up for me will be to keep the hand strap mounted on the right D-ring, and slip a standard Nikon shoulder strap through the left D-ring to be able to also be able to sling the camera over my shoulder when needed, similar to a Black Rapid sling.

Anyone using a hand strap? Brand? Pro's? Con's?

I am currently using a Black Rapid "R" Strap and love it. But occasionaly, I want to hold my camera without anything around my neck.

Thanks.
