TaoTeJared said:
Fuji abandoned the DSLR market a few years ago in favor for the small sensor long zoom and digi cams. Every once in a while someone from Fuji has said they are working on one but nothing ever comes of it or soon after someone else says they are keeping their options open but nothing is ready to be released.

The X100 has come way after their decision.

Makes sense that there was no successor to the S5 Pro.

X100 looks really interesting, but it's still to expensive for enthusiasts. Wish it came with a detachable lens. That'd be really sweet.

I'm hoping that's around the corner. Early adopters always get screwed. :D

Yes thats correct they felt there was more money to be made in the digi cams market I think. Smart decision I think as well because its sink or swim in this market when you compete against the giants like Nikon and Canon. We could also do a Kodak and Nikon relationship as well. Kodak went into sensor technology for digital rangefinders and DSLRS so different from Fuji. Interesting corporate branching out once film dwindled.

It would make sense- Fuji makes waterproof cameras, something Nikon still doesn't have. It's easier to compete that way.

I have been watching the X100 and there was an interesting comment on their design for a single focal length was how the sensor was designed for the lens. I'm sure some is marketing-speak, but until now sensor design has relied on internal software to handle lens characteristics. At a minimum, Fuji has always had unique sensor designs.

I think it will be interesting if Nikon starts to move away from Sony for all of it's sensors and to see which contractor does make them.

Kodak probably makes more money off of their patents then on actual products. They recently sued Shutterfly, Apple, and others for patent infringements.

Nikon has always been buddies with Kodak and Fuji. The very first Nikon digital cameras were Nikon film cameras with Kodak sensors slapped on them. The rumor floating around now is that Nikon has been seen going out with Fuji again. Nikon must have seen Fuji wearing that little X100 dress and couldn't help but make a pass ;^)

What is the relationship between Fuji and Nikon anyway?

Does Fuji license out the F-mount so that they can make the S5 Pro?

The D300 has been out for a couple years now and Fuji still hasn't made a successor to the S5.

Is Fuji abandoning the DSLR market for the niche made by the X100?
