The longer the lens the more pixels-per-degree.

One could not make a 17 GP spherical panorama with a 50mm lens.

More like a 1/2 GP panorama.

Nothing wrong with a 300mm prime thats for sure, I would have thought he'd use something much wider like a distortion free 28 or 35mm. Geez even a 50mm, but a 300mm?! It seems so localized. Your right NSX-Type R, its probably the same guy. Interesting a teleconverter was used as well.

Very strange you would use a 300mm prime though. I remember someone posted a link to similar sized image and that shot was taken with a 300mm prime as well. Whats with that?

It's likely what he had, and if I had to guess the motivation for slapping on the TC it was to get to ~2000 frames (not that there is anything special about 2000, but it is the number he ended up with), likely around the limit of what he thought he could handle with the constraints of hardware and time.

Yes thanks for sharing that link with us. The shot is amazing especially when you can zoom in on things like the rock climbers on El Capitan. Very strange you would use a 300mm prime though. I remember someone posted a link to similar sized image and that shot was taken with a 300mm prime as well. Whats with that?

What's wrong with using a 300mm prime?

Maybe it's the same person doing it.

By the way, is it just me or is the link down?

What is that like 500 40mp shots after the overlapping would give you that? Probably allot more images than that were used but wow! Insane amount of data and detail.
