Im waiting to snatch a D700 replacement. What ever comes first, the D4 or D800, Im buying it then selling my D3 to fund the next camera either it would be the D800 or D4 but my Combo this year is going to be D4/D800.

I just hope the D800 will be a Mini D3s instead of a D3x. I need ISO not resolution to blow up 8feet tall :).

This is all very interesting. The 700 seems like such a amazing camera as is..short of video if thats what your into so im very excited to see what nikon has coming down the line. Im shooting a d80 right now and have never had a client complain about resolution but i would/will like the low light abilities and the wide side..oh the landscapes.

In august 2010 I got fed with waiting and bought a new D700, which came with a free MB-D10
I have not regretted it, one little bit
I will need a second body in the spring and will wait until Focus, a UK trade show in March, before ether buying another D700 or if available its replacement
For those of you who are waiting, the D700 is a fantastic camera, perfect for the profession who does not want video
Even if they do bring out a replacement, the D700 will still be a fantastic camera
Unless you want video, buy a D700 today, if you do want video, buy a D7000 or a D3s or go to stores and ask for a long weight

The D4 will be released first so the D700 replacement doesn't grab sales from it
I shoot with the MB-D10 on my D700 99% of the time. It just feels right, plus most of my lenses are heavy (24, 35, and 85 1.4s and the 2.8 trinity), so the grip balances it out. The D3S is lighter and smaller than the D700 with a grip believe it or not.

I plan on getting a D4 when as soon as it is released. If/when the D700 replacement comes out, I will buy one of those and sell the D4. The price drop on the D4 will not drop much selling used as it will still be hard to find in stock 6-12 months later.

Don't expect the D700 replacement to be cheap either. The D700 was $2999 when it was released. Also look at the price increase from the D90 to the D7000. The D90 was $999 / $1199 with the 18-105mm. The D7000 is $1199 body only.

I'm waiting. But I also have a d700, so I'm not missing much. Need a second body, though, and would love to have some video capabilities.
So I wait, but will need to get something before the bulk of next summer's weddings start up, so I may end up with either another d700 or perhaps even a D3s if a bunch of new bookings roll in before that.

Would rather have the d700 upgrade over the d3s, though, as performance is going to be definitely good enough, will probably have video, and will still be half (or just a bit more) the price of the d3s.

Im waiting, I almost bought one, but didn't do it. I don't regret not buying it either.I know everyone likes to say how much they hate video in an slr but I work in film and know I would use it. Knowing the d700 has no video capabilities I will never buy it.

The fact that Nikon has nothing to compete with the 5d/7d is ridiculous and people saying that it wont change till 2012 or really late is ridiculous also. I have the d7000 but I want the full frame sensor to compliment the glass I own....the 85 just doenst feel useful on a dx body.

I'm waiting for the replacement, Thom Hogan's time line suggested that it should have be released late last year, so I am assuming that it will be spring this year now. I can imagine it will be released at the same time as the D300 replacement.

As for lenses, it may have the 24-120 f4 as standard kit..... or maybe not!

On the main Nikon rumours page the patent that Nikon has recently filed shows an optical contact, I wonder if that will be the big thing that Nikon has said it will bring out... only time will tell.

If you are waiting for a D700 replacement then make yourself comfortable because it's going to be a while.
Even if you believe the most optimistic rumours and it's announced in March 2011, going by what's happened with stock levels of the D7000 and AF-S 35mm f/1.4G you won't be able to get one until September 2011 ?
Personally I'm not looking to upgrade for a few years yet, although I have been keeping my eye out for a beaten up old D3000 and a AF-S 35mm f/1.8 G DX to use as a street camera.

I've been holding out for a D700s (D3s sensor in D700 body) since the D3s came out - there are times I really can use the extra high-ISO performance (e.g. shooting martial arts). But it doesn't look like that's going to happen, so I'm hoping Nikon will put that sensor in some other future camera, which will hopefully not be too low-end to shoot sports with. Failing that, I'll probably buy a D700 and grumble about what could have been.

I'm on the fence on a D300s or D700 replacement at this time. It will really depend on the low light performance for my style of shooting. I do like DX for the added reach my 2.8s have but find the FX glass focal length breaks on zooms to always land just outside of what I want. Better bokeh, detail, and low light really pulls me to FX though.

I plan on upgrading every 4 years since that seems to be when huge changes happen for Nikon. (Which is 2012 for me.) For my $2500 bucks, Nikon would have to produce something where I can get 4 stops or better or something just absolutely game changing that fits with what I shoot. Video does nothing for me. Shooting at low ISOs almost every camera is majestic so there is nothing pushing me to upgrade there.

On my D300 I find ISO 650-800 is the top for consistent color and IQ over the past couple of years. A couple of friends see the D700 pushing that to ISO 2000 with the same quality (2 stops-ish). D3s is up to ISO 3200 (3+ stops-ish). But I can't justify the $ for that one. (Granted all of them can go higher but with trade-offs. Many images are usable-just not ideal.) The D7000 seems close to the D700 at 2 stops. If the D300 replacement matches that, is not enough for me since software can help me to there. If the D700 replacement Is just to 3200 it is still allot of $$ but is very tempting. If it can truly hit or outdo the D3s say hitting ISO 3200 with phenomenal IQ matching ISO 400 in today's cameras, then I may be selling some lenses or a kidney.

The D700 replacement will probably be my first full-frame digital body. I have a camera now and I'm not missing shots while I wait, so it'll be my second (and primary) body.

I had been wanting a full frame for a little while. But if the d7000 is any indication, I will definitely get a d700 now. Was planning to get a used d700, however the price of 2nd hand market here in australia is ridiculous, A$1800-A$2000 while i can get a grey import brand new for A$2100.

I picked up my d700 2 nites ago and regretted that I didn't do it earlier. My plan is once the announcement is out, I will sale the d700. There is a good chance I can sale it for the same price or slightly less.
