Considering that the physical sizes are slightly different, yes there was some doubt (the new sensors in the D3100 and D7000 are slightly smaller than those found in previous DX cameras ie. 1.55x crop).

Chipworks found the die number to be IMX071, typical sony designation.

Anyway, I am impressed with the performance of D7000 once I got hand-on at the local store.
