Thought I'd add a comment since I have been out using my D7000 with at least 3 "hot" pixels for the last two months. Yes, they showed up in my recorded video during night scenes, but I just did the firmware update, and all the bad boys are gone. Thanks to Nikon, but more thanks to Nikon Rumor, as I felt all along that if this problem was as widespread as recorded here, they would have to address the issue, and they did. And, the directions for the update were concise and resulted in success on my first try.

Studio, one rumor I read was that the D90 wasn't even capable of a firmware update due to some engineering goof. It's probably not true, but I can rerumor those things on a nikon rumor site, right?

Well, I really didn't have any hope, or any expectation, that Nikon would address this so quickly in a firmware upgrade. I didn't even think that was a possible remedy, technically. I fully expected Nikon to mobilize some sort of expedited "depot service" program to be launched instead (to remap customers' D7000 sensors, en masse).

After waiting two years for the, "manual control," D-Movie firmware upgrade for the D90, which never came, I lost faith in Nikon's commitment to making its D-Movie feature a viable product feature. So, I certainly didn't expect a D7000 firmware "fix" anytime soon, or ever. Now, I am truly impressed with Nikon's rapid, and successful, response to its customers' needs, and in my eyes, the company has fully redeemed themselves as a premium brand who both listens to, and supports their customers at a very high level.

Thank you, Nikon!

Seshan, I need to apologize to you and thank you. I read your comment about reinstalling the firmware update and dismissed it as silly to do it again. Then I was sitting with my D7000 and thought, 'What would it hurt to try again?' and reupdated. The screen showed
A 1.01 -> A 1.01
B 1.01 -> B 1.01
and after the second update, when I record video I have no more stuck pixels!

Just to be clear in case anyone else has a similar experience, I followed the instructions on the firmware update page from Nikon USA above, then turned the camera off and back on and recorded a video. The stuck pixel was still there. Then I had the camera off for a couple of hours before decided to try Seshan's tip to run the update process again. After this update, I turned the camera off and on again and recorded another video, which had no stuck pixels. I can't figure it out and wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it myself.

Thanks for the link, Baraclava. I'll install it and report whether it fixes the one stuck pixel on mine in video.

update: I did the update, and that pixel is still there. Oh, well.

Some people are saying doing the update a couple times fixes it if the first time didn't

Glad Nikon came out with this. To bad all those people wasted there time returning cameras multiple times.

I don't think I will update since I didn't have any stuck pixels to begin with.

Fantastic! This took care of the bright, bright, BRIGHT red pixel that I was experiencing in videos with >800 ISO. Now I'm able to shoot video of my black leather sofa at 6400 without a problem. Can't even see it in live view with with the cap on.

Yes, ideally this would have been the case for this camera when I purchased it back in October, but I'm still glad that Nikon recognized the problem and resolved it - just in time for the holidays.

My camera lost its one red spot even in live view.
Tested it in my room with only one flimsy save-all-the-world's-electricity lightbulb.

Try it. If OS X can extract the .BIN, it should work (I did it on my Windows7 netbook, not my iMac).

I can't speak for this one, but historically the .exe files are just self-extracting .zips.
Any competent archive program can extract the bin file(s), regardless of O/S.

This downloaded file should be compatible on a Mac as well, right? All you're doing is dragging and dropping the file to the SD card. I've got a Mac mini with the Intel chip. All I'm seeing in System Requirements is Windows, Windows, Windows.

Thanks

AWESOME!

Thank you for posting that! Works like magic! No blue pixel, even on LiveView! I've only checked on the D7000's LCD at 6.8x magnification (ISO 5000 @ 1/50th), but so far, no hot pixels visible at all! I feel like I have a brand new camera, and now feel proud to own a D7000! Way to go, Nikon! Kudos to Nikon for delivering a firmware upgrade addressing this issue so quickly.

Note: after downloading the .EXE, be sure to extract the file on your PC, open the folder, then only copy the .BIN file to the root of your SD card.

Modifications enabled with A and B firmware Ver. 1.01

    * Bright spots were sometimes noticeable with movie recording of especially dark scenes or subjects. Occurrence of this issue has been reduced.
*After the firmware is upgraded, bright spots may be visible in the monitor while the camera is autofocusing with the shutter-release button pressed halfway in live view mode. However, these bright spots are not recorded with still images and movies and are not visible in the monitor while the camera is autofocusing during movie recording.
