In my wife's humble experience, The vast amjority of shops in Tsim Sha Tsui should be avoided - especially Haiphong Road or Nathan Road. They are scammers so if you go ahead with your plan, BE CAREFUL.

There is a good shop in Canton Road near Ocean Centre, but of course his 'up front' prices are higher and he doesn't bater at all.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, my wife's is born from 70 visits to HK. I have only accompanied her five times and during each of those the above warnings prove true.

Save a couple of bucks or keep a local shop going?

HTH

"hm... really it's cheaper to import one from usa or some place in the east.. xD

It's called price discrimination, it's as old as commerce itself, and it a fully legitimate business practice (even if distasteful). The classic counter example is how the USA pays more for prescription drugs than Canada.

I can only speak for Hong Kong. The place to go for cameras is Tsim Sha Tsui (aka TST) area. If you walk along Nathan Road towards the water end and check out all the streets leading to it, there are many shops to shop from.

One think to watch out is that there are 2 types of equipment being sold in HK. One type is exclusively for HK sales and the price is relatively higher and the other is the Japanese imports i.e. grey market stuff. It is very easy to spot these as all the printed material is in Japanese. The grey market stuff is even cheaper.

There was a nice little shop just off Nathan Rd that dealt only Nikon stuff and was very well stocked when I was there 10 years ago. So I assume that shop is still there :-) I can't remember but it is one of those streets that lead to Nathan Rd from the right hand side like Mody Rd., Cameron Rd. or the one after Salisbury (before mody).

hope it helps...

edit: just checked on the map and I remembered: Middle road. Go there, the store is on the right hand side before the Multi Storey Car part. There are many stores on that road to choose from but that little one is the place. I still use the lenses I picked up from that store (Nikon 35-70 f2.8 AF-D, Nikon 500mm f8 Mirror, Nikon 50mm f1.4)

Try the fact we get jibbed hard in Australia.

Both these price lists show the same roughly.

The Lens is $3000 AUD at retail in Australia - In the US at lets say BH it's $2150 USD

...and the AUD is nearly on par with the USD!

Hey All,

I'm off to singapore and hong kong next week and I'm thinking of picking up a nikon 70-200 2.8. Having a look at price lists, it's around $900 cheaper RRP in hong kong then it is in Australia! - since Nikon warranty is international on lens' I'm set!

Since the price between Singapore and Hong kong is going to be similar (I'd think) does anybody have recommendations on certain stores? I've seen a few reviews of stores on the web but just wondering if any NR people had experience.

Cheers
