OKeeee, the wife has taken 200 pictures of the Christmas tree, 20 of each house plant and me with my hair looking like bozo the clown.

The Christmas tree shots were a lesson that started off in full auto mode and ended in Aperture Mode using aperture to control outside lighting and flash compinsation to control inside lighting. It's now back on the green thingy and works wonderful:)

Soon she will be the master and I the student...

Framer, that's awesome. I wish I could get my wife to like SLRs, but I think we're now a really happy family, photographically. She has her smartphone, I have both a D7000 and NEX-5N I carry around with me, and I just bought my older boys each a coolpix s3300 for Christmas ($75 each and they're actually pretty nice little cameras...er...I mean, they look nice. Assuming you haven't fibbed about expensive gear...let her use some of your better lenses and then make her use the kit lens again. When she finds out the difference then either buy yourself better and give old ones away or somehow work in see it does matter! And buy better for both ;)

She can use whatever I got, what's mine is her's. I only got 4 AFS lenses. The 17-35 and the 70-200 are the ones she most likely will use. It will be interesting if she really gets interested in this as a hobby. She a very smart lady and should pick it up quickly. Well if she takes a good photo I might have to get it framed and hang it on the wall.

My spouse went Christmas shopping for me at the local camera store. They almost talked her into an RX100 (which wouldn't have been a bad choice, since we don't have a point a shoot). However I received a gift certificate instead. Now they can try and talk me into it ;-)

My tactic has been to keep moaning about the high price of Film and D&P on my slides and muttering about being forced to go digital against my better judgement. Mission Control thinks I am an ejit for sticking with film and is making encouraging comments about me getting with the times ..... now where should I strategically leave the D4 brochures for maximum impact?
This is a total win-win. Now that you've sparked her interest she'll "get" why you feel the need to spend $1,500-$2,000 on a lens. Also, now when you guys spend money on gear its price is spread amongst two users, thereby adding to its value. Genius!

Plus 1. Very clever framer. I may have to try that with my wife, only I'd be concerned about letting her anywhere near a camera store, in case she recognised some of my "cheap" lenses / flash guns, and wondered why they were marked up for so much more than I said they cost!! :-). I can see this thread becoming the "confession box" for all us guys on the forum! Should make for some great reading LOL.

I was looking to show her a monopod I wanted for Christmas. Well they didn't have it but she was listen to a salesman pitch the V1 to someone next to her. Before we left the store she said, "I not happy with my camera", an S8100 coolpix. It did not focus fast enough for her... Well when I got it she wanted something to put in her purse. We started looking at the V1 and move to the J1. She liked the speed, focus speed and viewfinder of the J1. I was ready to buy it for her but at the last second I asked to show her the D3200 w/18-55 vr lens. Her comment was, "its so light", she had allways thought DSLR were heavy. When I told her that it could use many lenses that I have, she wanted the D3200 over the J1.

So I went to the Camera store for me and bought the wife a D3200. Have I opened up a Pandora's Box...
