NikoDoby said:
Nothing new about this. Adobe has been doing "forced upgrades" for years. Ever since CS2 i believe.

It's also one of the reasons it's amongst the most pirated pieces of software out there.
But then from Adobe's point of view, if you could just add the latest camera raw to whatever version of Photoshop you had then who would buy CS3,4 or 5 ?
I remember reading an article that estimated 60% of all Photoshop users had a pirated copy, and yet Adobe still manage to make healthy profits ?
"Buying D7000 as a new camera brings all kinds of new costs with it." that's pretty much always been the case monty11. How the hell we got to the stage where my camera costs the same as small car is beyond me ?

Michael, I think that you are reading this wrong:

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you use Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements, use the appropriate link below and follow the installation instructions on those pages:

    * Photoshop Elements Camera Raw 6.3 plug-in for PSE

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4917

The ACR installer is for CS only as it has always been, you have to copy some files manually in the case of PSE. I have no idea why they can't just make a simple installer for it.

@Gareth, well PSE9/PremiereE9 sells for half the price (PSE9 for less) of Lightroom which at the moment is rougly half or third of what I pull in a month. So the cheapest solution for me would still be to buy PSE9. Another problem that I'm facing right now is that PSE will only handle 8-bit files. I know that I don't need to process my shots in 16 bits when I just upload them and I can find someone who has 16-bit capabilities to edit the shots that I plan to edit ... but still :)

Buying D7000 as a new camera brings all kinds of new costs with it. In addition I now need new memory cards :D Faster lenses would also be great ... I feel bankruptcy coming on :D

you could always buy lightroom and exports psd or tiff. it is much cheaper than cs photoshop and much better for raw conversions imo.

I got very exited when I read that Adobe Camera Raw is finally out for PSE (and ready for my D7000 RAW-files) and as I clicked the link, my exitement was cut short by the following line:

The latest version of the Camera Raw plug-in available for Photoshop Elements 8.0 (Windows) is Camera Raw 6.2.

I really hate this kind of forced upgrading.

It looks like CS4 users are out of luck also.
