It would be nice, but I suppose the answer is each camera has different power requirements and physical dimensions. Where would you put the battery from a D3 series body in a D3100? And if you reverse the situation how long would the D3 last on the D3100 battery? I know they're 2 extremes, but to save the R&D costs of the battery and charger, I'm sure they would if they could.

By the way, is there an after market brand that is consistently well made and trouble free, or do you have to take pot luck each time you buy one?

True, there was a tremendous advance in Battery technology... but why not to support the old ones? (They have the same voltage)

I do not see any problem in using non-nikon batteries, with the only condition that they will not damage the camera. In the past I did not have any problem in using non-nikon batteries with my D70s, that even after more than 6 years they are still working nice.

I for one do not mind as we are getting batteries that are better than the ones that came before.

I honestly believe this to be wrong. The ENEL15 far far outperforms the ENEL3 in terms of battery life and this can't just be down to power draw improvements in the D7000.

They did honor the email I sent them by taking the battery off the website fyi.

there is no way that an EL15 3rd party battery would be out already. They need time to reverse engineer it.

They will come out, but i figure a few months more at least.

technically the el3e and EL15 are identical, they just replaced the contacts with ones that are protected from shorting. They might have some different circuitry, i don't remember. but i believe the electrical properties are the same

No need to test.
Common frickin sense says it is NOT compatible:

A - "Replaces: Nikon EN-EL3e" <-Not D7000 compatible.
B - The photo is not of a D7000 battery.
C - The model number is "Lenmar DLNEL3E" Hmm, smells like the incompatible EN-EL3e, no?
D - Every other camera it is listed as compatible with does not share batteries with the D7000.

Testing would be a waste of time. Move on, nothing to see here.

That's an EN-EL3E knockoff and it's not compatible with the D7000...

I found that Radio Shack has aftermarket batteries for our D7000 at 7.4V / 1500mAh Lithium Ion and 2 Year Warranty
