I also got one from Amazon ($250) upgrading from a Canon G9. Allready installed the upgrade and works ok.

Not a very fast camera (for speed I have a D7000), but good quality pictures for a P&S at any price.

The only problem for me has been focusing through glass (in this case better use manual focus) and sometimes overexposure of the flash, but now I'm using negative exp. compensation and works fine.

Lot of user control and options for saving settings. Uses flashes and remote control from D7000. Size is just good to have a good grip of the camera (don't like smallers cameras). If I need a smaller camera, my iphone is loaded with photo Apps.

In general, happy with P7000. I will replace it only for a Nikon Coolpix that uses a N1 sensor. That will be great!

So over the holidays Amazon had this listed for a steal at $229 and Free 1 Day Shipping.

I was very tempted to buy this but it wasn't until reading that the new firmware they pushed out essentially fixed the problems it had and basically made it a P7100 without the extra button and articulating screen, that I pulled the trigger and bought it.

I must say, I take back everything bad I said about Nikon's Coolpix line, at least when it comes to this camera! I LOVE IT!

Maybe the LX5 with it's Leica lens is the way to go...and the EVF viewfinder, I just can't take images staring at an lcd screen.

The only compacts I have seen that can almost capture action are Casio. They are smaller, very reduced MP images. For golf swings and like uses it works OK if you are not real concerned about detail. I have seen a couple from Sony that are not too bad either but for action DSLRs are hard to match.

PB PM - thanks for the photos! They look quite good! It may be a touch better than my G11 but I'm not that sure it is that much better to justify buying one. Probably the next update it will find a place in my bag.

I agree with NSXType-R, the P7000 is not the kind of camera you want to be shooting any kind of action with. The subject tracking feature is next to useless, for anything moving. I couldn't even get it to track ducks floating on a pond. It does work best with people though, which I suspect is what it is made for.

1600 certainly looks better than the D40.

I have more respect for the camera, but I'm still looking for a real fast compact, which Nikon still doesn't make.

If I've got time later I'm going to pop into a retailer and see how it feels in my hand... Hopefully I can sell my other compact in a few days and the P7000 will still be the same price.
It's dropped to £370 here in the UK, it was £470 a few weeks ago...I don't know about elsewhare in the world but in the UK prices are like a rollercoaster at the moment, one week they drop by £100 the next they go up ???

VR is very effective in my experience. I've shot sharp images all the way down to 1/5s.

As for low light, it does okay. Here is an ISO1600 sample. This is an out of camera jpg file. My RAW software doesn't support the NRW+ files at this time so I haven't been shooting RAW.

As for low light AF performance, it depends. I don't shoot in bars, but as long as there is enough contrast in the scene it should be okay.

Going down to 10MP means it has good low light performance, which the P6000, and G10 weren't exactly known for known for. The point of the camera like the P7000 is for DSLR users who want something smaller and lighter than even an EVIL camera can offer.

I still like the P6000 better. Interesting if you look on Amazon they are selling off their remaining stock for over $600. I have taken some incredible pictures with my p6000 and would not trade it for a 10 mp camera as it seems that you (the general you) would be going backwards. I would trade it for a d3100.

I've found that one of the best ways to search for forum posts is to click on the "Add New>>" topic link to start a new thread, then start typing keywords there. If you list a few keywords in the Title field and then put your cursor down on the Post field, it will show you related topics between those fields. It's a pain, but it's better than slogging through pages of unrelated items in the google search.

It shouldn't be this difficult to find a thread to ask a reasonable question ?...It just puts you off asking in the first place it takes so long ?

Please guys do a forum search! There is a thread discussing the P7000 already.

The viewfinder is very small, has colour fringing and distortion on the edges, but it isn't too dark. I only use it as a last resort because it only has about 80% coverage.

Thanks PB PM, yeah I've read about the buggy software but I'm sure the first firmware update will adress those.
How is the viewfinder PB PM ?...is it bright and what % coverage do you think it gives ?

I've had my P7000 since Sept 28, and played around with it a lot. Overall I think it is a very good camera, but there are some bugs that need to be addressed. Those bugs are well known, so I wont get into them. For regular shooting I find it to be nice for still subjects. Good ISO performance for a point and shoot camera, at least as good as a 10MP Nikon DSLR from a few years ago, like the D40X or D80. The lens is sharp, at least mine is.

If you have any specific questions about the camera feel free to ask.

I'm thinking of selling some bits and pieces and buying a P7000 to carry with me when I'm without my main gear (it's just dropped in price in the UK by £100)...has anyone got one or used one?...what did you make of it ?
I've read the reviews and tests but I'm interested in what actual buyers think of it.
