I agree, if I had even the slightest concern that the new design solid 1 piece connector might fail, and drop $20,000 worth of cameras and lenses on the floor, I can guarantee you I wouldn't use it. I have no such concerns, and regularly us this system. If you are realy concerned, there is a way that you can employ a second line of defence in case of connector failure, I also have the two ends of the OP-TECH strap system connected to the cameras regular strap lugs. If you clip these together through the Black Rapid strap, I found (before the BR system proved itself to me) that they in no way impeeded the cameras sliding upside down on the BR straps, but would catch the cameras if the screw connector failed.

I'm a little confused by your repeated mention of not wanting to use a monopod.
Are you saying "I don't plan on using a monopod so it's ok that the BR strap will attach to the lens's tripod foot." or are you somehow under the impression the tension-pull technique one can do with a BR strap will make up for the stability offered by a monopod?

I want responses from people who have used a 300 2.8 with it specifically.

The 300 2.8 is probably twice as big and heavy as the 70-200, which i would have on there as well.

I really don't want to use a monopod.

Black Rapid works great - I have the d300 gripped with 70-200 and love it. Looks at adamz links - tons of stuff on there.

I am looking at a black rapid, or sun sniper for sports.

I want to use

d700 gripped with 70-200 and
d300s with 300 2.8

will this work with a RS-1? I wish there was a little safety connection on the connectors in case they come unscrewed.

I want to be mobile so don't want a monopod.

Are there other options?
