What? Test the camera yourself? That's a really dumb idea. Don't you know that everything you read on the internet is true. ;^)

What? You're saying that all the kinky stories from 4chan are not true? You're breaking my heart :-(

Honestly, they (Nikon) will probably wipe the floor with all the other camera manufacturers when they release next generation full frames.

Yeah, funny thing isn't it. :) When I'm not taking photographs, I live and breath the internet - so I'm automatically suspicious of everything.

It's an interesting result, but I'm wary of these reviews. I'd like to test the D7000 myself. I've used FX format for years now. ISO6400 is about the limit of what you can do on the D3/D700 without exposing too much noise.

On D3S, that limit is around ISO20,000 (for me, using F/4.0 aperture and 1/15sec shutter speed). To really push these cameras, you have to wait until the light fades and see how you go in dark scenes.

Kanuck, I completely agree with you, I have to unload my D3 this next year before it looses too much value. I bought used (factory demo) for 3500$ dec 09. I expect i can get 2500$ at least when the D800 comes out and will do a close to fair trade (expecting D800 to be about 2600-2700). im expecting the D800 to be a little better then D3s and then the D4 will be a full stop or 2 better in quality then the d3s

Oh, thanks for that tip on the KR review. I love humor where I can get it.

Some highlights from my read (I stopped reading after a while. It started getting to me.):

...the only perfect cameras are the Nikon FE, LEICA M3, New Mamiya 6 and almost the Contax G2...

I use U1 for scenics, with VIVID Picture Control jammed to +3 saturation and JPG BASIC LARGE, while I set U2 for people: STANDARD picture control with +2 saturation, and SMALL BASIC JPG.

Mit der Noct, the Nikon D7000 is the world's most sensitive low-light camera.

The D7000 shines as a more professional camera than the D300 because the D7000 defaults its stupid beeper to OFF. Thank goodness!

The D7000 would be a better camera if Nikon didn't waste our time and money with its puny top LCD panel. The D7000's top LCD is tiny and illegible, unlike the big, legible top LCD of the glorious F6.

Don't even think about those Tamron lenses! [on lens recommendation page: If you insist, the 18-200mm VR II is probably all you need for everything, except for action in low light.]

See page 222 of Nikon's D7000 User's Manual for more, but it won't explain anything.

The D7000 body is not as comfortable as the D300... far from it.. I just hope that I will get used to it.

That won't stop me to use the camera and enjoy its strengths

Willis that would be the D3 he uses, which he bought because of it's high speed to capture his kids. You know, everyone needs a D3 for that...I thought the details were highe rin the FX example shots as well.

Smarterchild just wait til the technology rolls over to the next FX camera! If it has made the DX line this good (nearly equal to FX) we are in for a real treat!

One thing I found pretty educational about Rockwell's D7000 review were the noise comparisons. At every comparable ISO there is quite a bit more detail in the D700 (or maybe D3... can't remember) shots.

I think the D7000 is a great body. I'm a little torn as to wether or not I should upgrade my D90 (workcam), go ahead and make the move to FX, or upgrade my D40 (the funcam) to a 3100 and then wait around for the successor to the D700 which I think is going to be very spectacular.

I'm also wondering if we'll see a successor to the D700 (either D700s\x or a D800)before we see the D4, which I'm guessing is still at least a year out.

Perplexing times these are. Good thing my new job has me to busy to spend much time pondering this sort of thing. Maybe I'll actually be able to afford it by the time I make up my mind.

I've had more time to think about it and I think I'll sell my Pentax gear now and switch back to Nikon. I can still make fun of my canon buddies using the DXOmarks. That's more important to me than actually taking pictures. Besides now that I can't make fun of my Pentax friends, we can now make fun of canon users together.

I like DXOmark because five of the top 10 DSLRs are Nikons. When the D3X is no longer the top DSLR camera on their list then I will cry foul too and make a post on my website about how dumb their testing procedures are.

At least hes moved on from his beloved lost cause, The D40. NOW The D7K is the best EVER!

I think the iso quality is quite similar. But i would still rather have a FX camera. Its just proof that technology is getting better and better.

Interesting article called "DxO Hysteria" on bythom.com
"I don't care what DxO's number is. It's meaningless to me, and probably should be meaningless to you."
Personally I couldn't care less about these DxO numbers, they have no bearing on my picture taking.

I almost went the Pentax way - maybe I should have ;) Good to see them come up the charts. Competition is always good.

Something about DXOmark that I just don't trust. Maybe it is the obvious understanding that they assign numbers that make differences appear to be huge but are actually only .0000000001 of reality. Or it is that they are the only game in town. Either way I put very little user-credibility to what they assign number too.

The only thing I look for at DXOmark is the comparison of camera sensors from previous model to new models.

/sarcasm? ;-)

Honestly, the differences cannot be that big between APS-C Pentax and APS-C Nikon. 1/2 stops maybe.. 2/3.. Even if it's one stop more, hell with it. ;-)

Anyway, I'm sure the FF sensors still look much better at same iso than apsc. :)

According to DXOmark the 16.3mp Pentax K-5 sensor is the best APS-C sensor they have ever tested! It ranks 6th on their scale right below the D3S (5th) and above the D3 (7th). The D700 ranks 8th.

So how'd the 16.2mp D7000 end up in 10th? I'm switching to Pentax! All of my Nikon gear will be going up on craigslist shortly.
