I'm very surprised you can't get any parts as the lens hasn't been discontinued...great lens and it's £1300 cheaper than the AF-S 24mm f1.4 G

$120 vs $360 - Picked it up used from a friend years ago for $150. Worth the attempt.

I loved the size, distortion free, 2.8, full frame and on my D300 it gave me a 35mm equiv for a photo journalistic look. Did I mention the size?

I'll probably pick up a used Sigma 24mm 1.8 to replace it for under $300. Need for speed - but $2k is obnoxious for Nikon's 1.4. It's big but it takes 77mm filters, is full frame and the F1.8 will be nice to have.

So 3 months of trying to get my lens fixed and I can now say that there are no parts anywhere for my poor 24mm AFD.

Seems odd but something tells me that there must be something going on at Nikon to let basic parts run completely out on older lenses while still showing them in their current line up.

Looks like I got myself a new lens for one of my FE2s.

Oh and if you are wondering - lens was sent to 7 places and 15 others were contacted.

2.8 primes used to be a big deal because they were cheaper to make than zooms. The standard lens that came with any camera back in the day was a 50mm. All cameras that come in kits come with zooms now.

Fast forward to today, when pro zooms exist with f/2.8 apertures, and they are more popular. Most pro's won't even touch the 20/24/28 lenses because the quality of the pro zooms are better than those primes. So Nikon is focusing on primes that the pros will buy, the f/1.4s.
I doubt anyone nowadays would pay $500-$800 for a f/2.8 prime lens. Times change . . .

If the 2.8 line is updated you'd be looking at $1000 lenses, not $300-400. The reason those lenses are so cheap is the age.

I know for sure it isn't fishy - the shop it was sent to spent the last 5 weeks trying to get parts. They haven't touched the 2.8 line outside the 60mm for quite some time.

I hope Nikon doesn't replace the 2.8's with the 1.4s. Not everyone can afford 2K lenses vs. the $300-600 that the 2.8s provide. I for one would love to see a whole new set of 2.8s updated.

Sounds fishy to me. Nikon should have replacement parts for at least 5 years after a unit goes out of production for warranty purposes. Considering it is still for sale and in stock at every store I've looked at I doubt it is being replaced or if it is, I suspect that the 24mm F1.4G would be it. Likely just a supply shortage due to all the new cameras and lenses that are on the production line right now.

Just sent my 24mm F2.8 AFD in for a CLA and a "gummy" motor issue and the repair shop said that they could no longer get parts.

Could this be a sign that Nikon is finely upgrading the old primes?

(PS - It is now getting bounced around the country trying to find a shop with parts in stock - I hope someone has some in.)
