Thanks Broxibear, late November is all I can seem to get out of the retailers, but will contact Nikon UK.
It's true £350 is eye watering,
Good point on the VAT too!

I'd contact Nikon UK freedom7 and ask them directly, that's what I did about the SB-700 and they did get back to me...although they could only say "early December".
The UK retailers are still showing pre-orders for the MB-D11, it's expensive at £350 ?
Remember there'a a VAT increase in January so if you're going to buy one get it before then.

Nikon rumors is stating officially today that the MB-D11 will START shipping by mid December! Ouch and you know this will be madness with the Christmas season. Numerous people won't get there's until late winter probably...

I just bought the D7000 and the MB-D11 in Tokyo. While I haven't done scientific tests, the grip does not seem to make the frame rate faster after using it and without it in the same conditions. While the body of the MB-D11 and the small lever that opens the battery compartment feel "plasticy", the rubber portions feel substantial. In fact when holding vertically with the grip attached to the D7000, it feels like your holding a D3/D700/D300.

Also, adding the grip made the camera feel a lot more balanced when attached to the 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII that I just rented. Overall, I'm happy with the grip, but it cost me almost $400 in Japan.

Lucky! And thanks for posting this, really informative!

Sucks that it doesn't add FPS but I am going to get it anyways.

Ouch at $400!

My skeptisism comes from the fact that the MB-D10 costs $240, and it "seems" to be a higher end device.

The only reason it should be so expensive is if it also works with the D400 and D800, but this raises a whole load of questions about body size.

$250 might not be the last word.

Given that it still is not really "out" its possible that this price is still inflated.

so until it actually ships via the big retailers we won't know the real price.

i believe it does. Unlike the MB-D80, the grip does not extend into the standard battery compartment, instead there are contacts next to the tripod socket for this purpose, just like the D300/D700.

Here is what i found on a UK camera store:

"Multi power battery grip for the Nikon D7000 digital slr camera. The MB-D11 grip can accomodate 1 or 2 Nikon EN-EL15 batteries. Also included is a AA battery holder for 8x AA batteries. This grip also improves vertical shooting with an additional shutter release button and control dial."

i have no idea how true this is, but its a good sign. it would mean having 3 batteries at once. If the MB-D11 follows the D80 with 2 batteries and not the D10 with only one...

Oh my that would be soooo worth the 300$ price tag.

You don't shoot with big lenses do you? The grip makes a huge difference when shooting with lenses like the 17-35 F2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 80-200 f2.8, 300mm f2.8 and even larger. My d90 and D200 balance these lenses out well whereas the D90 without it feels like a consumer gizmo that needs a light cheap lens to go with it. Plus I love the perceived unlimited battery power. Now if only the mb-11 held 2 battery's in addition to the camera battery...

I just bought an 80-200 AF-S so I will be needing this grip!

Also I really loved the MB-D80 because I could run down one battery and when it switched to the other I could charge the dead one without having to turn the camera off.

Ehhh the battery pack adds just enough weight for me.

I mean it is heavier so hand holding can get annoying but I love the bigger grip, without one my pinky gets tired being in awkward positions.

Vertical grips usually add an extra battery compartment, function lock switch, vertical shutter button and a command dial.
