Nikon wouldn't use a brand new unreleased lens on a bunch of product shots. I kind of remember that there was a shot of a D2XS taken with a canon 1Ds a few years back too.

Wow, so this was not shot with a new lens - somebody just tried to cover the tracks and added a D3x :) Why not just delete the EXIF all together. Weird.

Why some people are so overly concerned about the camera companies use for the best job is absurd. Use the tool that works best for the end use.

I have seen many other internal product shots done with a Hassy before from Nikon. No one questioned it until lately with the quality on Nikon's bodies being so good. Now everyone makes a stink when it is not shot with one of the manufactures bodies. Canon, Pentax, Sony, etc. all have the same thing happen to them as well. If you are printing billboards and want the best quality, size does matter. Images from 50mp or 65mp sensors are allot easier to blow up.

And it is easy enough to change the name to D3x.

Thanks, that's probably the case in Nikon's pictures - they were using the Sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro lens.

well i just tried with my Nikon 60mm lens and at close distance the exif shows the actual max aperture, not just the 2.8.

Im not sure admin. I am not a expert with EXIF data, It was just today i was actually looking at EXIF data.

yes, probably the case - at some distances you cannot use the max aperture, but will this show in the EXIF data?

Sigma has a similar model: Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM APO HSM IF Macro but the max aperture is not f/3.3 but f/2.8.

Yes, but there is no such lens - with f/20 @ 150mm. The regular zoom lenses do not have f/20 - this must be a macro lens.

Wouldn't it simply be a lens that is zoomed in to 150mm? Isn't the lens model itself a separate line in the EXIF?

Someone who uses EXIF data more than I do can likely answer better than me, but I think the 150mm is the setting for the zoom lens, and the f3.1 is the widest opening at 150mm, the shooting aperture was f20.

That's the best I can do.

If you look at some of the D7000 press release pictures on Nikon USA website, the EXIF data shows a lens that I cannot identify in the current Nikkor line-up:

picture taken with D3x (full frame)
f-stop: f/20
focal length: 150mm
max aperture: 3.3

The low-resolution versions do not have any EXIF data.

What do you guys think? Sigma has a similar macro lens @ 150mm f/2.8. This could be a new Nikon lens or of course the EXIF data could be manipulated (but why?).
