Please do a forum search. There are many "which lens" threads currently being discussed. There's no need to start another thread.

Here in Europe, thanks to the full frame mania, you can find some good used 17-55s for almost the same price you'd pay for a new Tokina 16-50.

I've owned the Nikkor 16-85 and now own a Nikkor 17-55, in the past I have also owned a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 (awesome lens, if a bit weird on DX). I would stick to the "fast" solution, the Nikkor 16-85 is a great walkaround lens but, IMO, there is no substitute for being able to crank the aperture to 2.8 when the lights dim.

If you really want that extra 35mm on the long end, I'd suggest you to pair the 16-85 with the Nikkor 35 f/1.8 DX (awesome lens too) for low light work.

As I own the Tokina 16-50, I can only speak for it.

It's awesome, 77mm filter, built like a tank and if you want to do video you'll LOVE the giant focus ring.

I could not be happier.

I was in the same boat as you, and even if I had the money for the 17-55 I'd probably keep the Tokina.

Also at around $400-$500 depending if you buy new or used, it's a bargin.

Hi.. just after your thoughts.. I have a D300s & I’m looking for a high quality zoom lens starting from the 16 or 17mm range up to the 50 to 85mm range.
I think the main contenders are the Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 or the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 or the Tokina 16-50mm f/2.8..
Which one is best ?? ..or are there any others.. ??
I would love the Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 but I think it would take me far to long to save up for that one.
Thanks for any comments..
