Wasn't there a rumor about Nikon EVIL glass having powered zoom? Or did I just imagine that? That would certainly get people's attention. Interchangeable powered zoom lenses!

But I think discussions on the boards have solidified that the physics behind it (mount, lens, etc.) won't allow it, so we shall see. . .

What won't work is a lens designed for EVIL to mount on the F-mount. The other way round has no problems at all.

Yes, I remember reading that. I always thought that it would mean having an EVIL type of a camera or something like NEX with a bigger sensor of the DX size. Sony's entrance with the NEX has shifted that market segment. I doubt we will see traditional 4/3 sized sensors in these type of cameras.

Who knows there were rumors of Sony NEX7 coming out in Sept as well. But I haven't heard much more about it. It was supposed to be geared toward more serious photogs. I think that we will be pleasantly surprised by the time Christmas comes around.

Nope it's the other way around Poster. Canon has publicly said they are working on smaller traditional DSLR designs versus EVIL cameras. They are still making too much money on their G series point & shoots and crappy Rebels. That's why I don't believe the "EIS" specs are real. However they have to bring out something to compete with a Nikon EVIL so it'll be an interesting to see how things play out in the next six months.

^
To be honest I am a lot more interested in canon EVIL than Nikon, simply due their success with the Gxx line of point and shoot cameras. But if I were a betting man, I would wager that Canon will pull out the an EVIL camera before Nikon will.

There will be a new Nikon lens mount. An adapter will help with lens compatibility.

Did you guys read the rumors of canon's "EIS" 22mp EVIL camera?

I am sure they will come out with an adaptor. But the market focus of the EVIL camera is consumer. Hardly anybody of the targeted consumers would either have a lot of Nikkor lenses or would be willing or wanting to get more to have it work on the EVIL. Most will get a prime or two and some kind of kit zoom.

I myself would be interested in the a kit zoom and a prime for street photography.

And I wish they would include a real hotshoe for flash.

the only way this new EVIL thing will work. . .is it it's compatible with all other Nikkor lenses. . .

if it is, then Nikon will destroy the rest.

But I think discussions on the boards have solidified that the physics behind it (mount, lens, etc.) won't allow it, so we shall see. . .

Right. Sorry I use EVIL and micro4/3 interchangeably. I meant An EVIL camera but with the DX size sensor.

Hey Mods can we change the tile of the thread?

Canon has already said that their EVIL offering wouldn't be m4/3. Something tells me Nikon, likewise, will develop something proprietary. Having said that, I think that if Nikon did enter the actual m4/3 segment with the same quality of lenses we've seen in their DSLR's, they'd stand to do pretty well not only with first-timers, but probably also with existing Olympus/Panasonic users.

What if it's going to sport the same image sensor as D7000?

I really, REALLY want a micro 4/3 system. Come on Nikon don't let me down on this, or I will have to go with either Canon* or the Panasonic.

When it comes to point and shoots I prefer Canon so by this premise I suspect that Canon won't disappoint. Since thee will be separate lenses for both Nikon and Canon micro 4/3 systems I don't really care for the adaptability factor.
