I didn't realize that tamron lenses are sold mount-less (are they still or is this just an old thing?) Going through some storage bins I found all the adapt-all mounts (lots of p/k, p/ka, fd,...etc) and I was just about to give up when I came across ANOTHER tamron lens (an 80-200 2.8, this thing is a beast) and it had the adapt-all n/ai mount on it! I also came across a 1.4x tamron tele too!

I am in lens heaven right now!

A few major caveats...
the 300 2.8 is filthy, but I am taking some test shots now.
the 80-200 2.8 is broken (the aperture pin is sticking up in the lens, so it only shoots wide open..luckily for some reason the pin doesn't show up in photos)

very cool day.

Very interesting!

No, that is not the reason.

The camera registry of Nikon requires a longer back focal length than a canon lens can offer.

It is (in principle) possible to use Leica lenses on on Nikon bodies, if a 0.5mm Nikon F to Leica R mount adaptor can be made.

Vivek.

Vivek is correct. You can mount a Hassie lens on a Nikon with an adapter - the physical size of the lens is not the issue. The distance from the camera mounting flange ot the film plane is what counts. If you could find or make an adapter to use a Canon lens on a Nikon body, you would not be able to get infinity focus. It would be like using the Canon lens with an extension tube on a Canon body.

Regards, Ross

very interesting and pretty dissapointing. Oh boy is that lens going to look silly on an xti, haha.

I know there is an adapter to put Nikon lenses on a Canon body, but I didn't think there were any adapters to put Canon lenses on a Nikon body. It has something to do with the mount sizes of why it works one way but not the other. Someone else probably has a better explanation of why that is.

Hey guys, I'm back in Boston for the school year and have a question.
I work for the "school" newspaper(actually the newspaper and the school got into a fight of some kind years ago, and we are no longer officially affiliated with the school, most likely because the paper prints, "the truth") and they have a few lenses for people to use to shoot sports photos. Normally I wouldn't be into it, but I am the associate photo editor and at some point I will probably have to (plus it would be an excuse to use a lens like this, hah)

So one of the lenses is a Tamron 300mm 2.8, and from what I've been able to look up, it's most likely a canon mount. I would just read the plaque on the lens, but it's pretty messed up and hard to read, here is what I can make out:

Tamron SP 300mm 2.8 IS ID
(possibly LS ID)

anyway, assuming for now that this is a canon lens (currently I have a d70 and a rebel xti, and am planning on selling the xti to help fund my d7000 purchase if everything works out) What kind of adapter would I need to buy to use this on a Nikon body?

thanks,

-Sumner
