Card and buffer speed make make a difference in continuous shooting. The D5000 has a tiny buffer, which means you aren't going to get a lot of shots off (RAW) without it slowing down.

I use a sandisk extreme in a d5000, and with the default distortion/noise stuff on after 5 continuous shots it pauses to finish processing or clear the buffer or something. but when I turn off the processing options I can shoot continuously without pauses. I guess the limiting factor, as others have said, is less about card speed and in what processing options I have turned on. Not complaining, 5's not bad, but wish I could get full continuous with image processing on, maybe you guys get that on the higher end bodies?

Oh, I misunderstood your post. I thought you were saying the Extreme SD cards were faster than the Extreme CF cards.

Ive run tests while out shooting and notice a huge drop in performance when my D90 or D80 doesn't have a "extreme" card in it. My d200 (or borrowed D700 for that matter) doesn't have a problem if I put a crappy cf card in it. It'll shoot exactly the same, but crappy sd's for me have always chocked up my D80 and D90...

Extreme SD cards are rated faster, that doesn't mean they are faster in practice.

Yeah I heard the "older" San Disk IV's are faster than the new San Disk's that are rated 60MB/s. . .go figure. . .

To consider, I heard transcend 600x cards are cheap and WICKED fast. . .made in USA too.

Thanks for your comments..
The advert online says ((Please consider the All New EXTREME CF replacing Extreme IV))
Anyway.. As long as I can still take photo's at 7 fps when needed... & the time to load to PC isn't too much different.. then I'll be happy. ( does this sound right ?? )

Actually, the SanDisk Extreme is something of a dog in the D300/D300s:

http://sportsphotoguy.com/extreme-disparity/

Galbraith's tests seem to bear out that, for whatever reason, only the very latest cameras (i.e., Canon 5D Mk II) seem to be able to get good speed out of the new "Extreme" cards.

http://sportsphotoguy.com/extreme-disparity/

What the crazy white man says is true IF you're using a FireWire 800 or PCI-E based ExpressCard reader. Anything else and you won't see much difference.

Hi! If the price is the same just use the one with the higher speed. It doesn't make much difference in your camera but you'll have better performance when you download your images to your PC.
