I would say, if You don't shoot with manual glass get d95, as I doubt they gonna support it in a way d300s is

I think the D300s will still find it's way into pro hands, esepcially if they keep the D95 the same weight as the D90, BUT, I still keep the D90 as a great DX backup to my D3, so who knows. . .

It already has I know 4 NatGeo staff photog's who shoot on D300 and D300s exclusively for field work.
I think the D300 line is very very popular with pro's who like shooting DX. I know thats my experience of it, many loved their D2X and have kept with that familiarity by sticking with the D300 line.

If the rumors are true, the only feature I would be interested in the D90 replacement will be the AF during video. I don't find this appealing enough to replace my D300s, especially since one day the D300s replacement will have it as well. There were also some talk about better ISO performance. I did not got more details on that - is it going to be just a higher ISO or same ISO level, but improved.

remember, the D95 will lack the following from the D300s,

51-AF
8fps
CAM3500 AF
100% VF
Dual Cards

I think the D300s will still find it's way into pro hands, esepcially if they keep the D95 the same weight as the D90, BUT, I still keep the D90 as a great DX backup to my D3, so who knows. . .

No one can fault the D300s, and after the D95 has been announced in the $1250 range, we'll probably realize that the D300s still has plenty to offer to justify the slightly higher cost. But, the d95, or whatever it will be called, will most probably be 16MP and have 1080i video. So, pick your priorities and make your choice - and don't look back! Either camera will be a fantastic choice! Expect a 9/1 introduction - or something near that.

It really depends on what you find lacking on your D50. I have a D70 which has/is the same sensor generation as the D50. I would have upgraded to the D300 if I didn't get the Fuji S5pro for me the DR was what I found lacking in that sensor generation. but I still use my D70 now. Others find the MP low ( I dont think 6mp is low) or the handling or other specific features lacking. Only you can tell us what you find lacking in your system. The D50 will still take great pictures with the lenses you currently have

That tamron 28-75 is a great lens but for your stated use consider the 17-50 VC F2.8. I am really waiting for a VC version of that 28-75. I have a nikkor 35-70 which I got second hand for a steal! ( found it in a dusty corner of a camera shop and bought it for 150. )

also consider the new 17-70 sigma OS f2.8-F4.

The key is autofocusing mechanism. D300/300s/700 has this great 51-point autofocus, which tracks things in 3d, plus scene recognition/face recognition. If D95 really has this rumored 30+point autofocus, it may be interesting. Of course, it is not clear how many of these 30+ points are x-type. If the autofocusing mechanism is as good or better than D300, then I'd get D95, because it is obviously cheaper. Of course, there is always this idea of getting a used D300 which is currently between $800-1000 which is cheaper than new D95.

Nobody can answer your question with full certainty until the D95 comes out, as nobody even knows the full specs of it yet. By the looks of it, it will be announced in September.

Keep in mind that your little one will not stop and wait for Nikon to introduce its new camera. I really doubt that there will be anything so major that will totally annihilate the D300s. It could very well be what the D90 was compared to D300.

i have been using my d50 for quite a few years, and i have bought 35/1.8,50/1.8,85/1.8,tamron 95, two sb600, westcott softbox, yongnuo trigger as time went by.

the d50 is good, but the AF and ISO is not that great, with a 8 month baby at home, i really want to upgrade to a new camera body.

the rumors say the new d95 is about 1200, and now the d300s carries a 1500 price tag, so i cannot stop wondering, should i just wait for the d95 or buy a d300s now?

and i also think about getting a tamron 28-75/2.8, there are lots of times i wish i don't need to change lens between shoots, but i cannot justify the purchase, should i just stick to my primes instead?
